Thanks for sharing this video Matt. I like this house even more after seeing this walkthrough.

The land that this house, and the old house, sits on is spectacular. You could place a trailer on this property and still get a wow!

I have spent many hours studying pictures of the original house and there are only two things that I like about it. First, each of the three bedrooms have it’s own bath and closets. Second, the house has such a basic rustic design that anyone, who has an average income and a wide enough lot, can build one similar. But overall I’m disappointed in the design, especially considering an architect was used.

When the new house was first built, the only pictures available were from a distance and to me the new house reminded me of the Taj Mahal or a temple like a mid-eastern mosque. I didn’t find it appealing. However, a few years ago a few picture showed some of the rooms, the basement garage, and the pools. In seeing those pictures I could see that some interesting design and a few places that I could be comfortable and not overwhelmed in.

This walkthrough video is quite nice. While there is some overkill, both dining rooms, the living rooms, and the guest bedrooms all look comfortable. While I like the main dining room , having a big fish tank with “Jaws” either pooping or eating another fish while we eat is something I might change.

The look and feel of this monstrosity is entirely institutional. They took tragedy, and turned it into kitsh.

A choice of 18 bathrooms in which to wash off your victim's blood.

Very thoughtful.

But I don't trust a guy who doesn't know what a gong (hint - next to a dining table) might be.

For those of us who have spent decades poring over TLB, there will always be tragedy located there.. Just looking at the relatively small expanse of plain lawn made me think of Abigail Folger lying there like a bloodied statue after a revolution.

But for most others the topic is now its architecture and almost obscene display of wealth.. Its history is fading and there's probably no significant event to come that will bring it to the front of general consciousness again. I can see both the sadness and optimism of that.

Such ostentatious wealth can be repugnant, but at least there will be someone residing there now like it is a home. Altobelli basically lived in a murder scene.

Does anyone have any recent information on what the expansive, multi-lot building on Angelo, just above 10050 Cielo is?

They've been at it for years...

I agree, but it’s really more of a bad tam tam.

It's a "giga-mansion", similar to the subject of this post, but even bigger. The address is 10101 Angelo View Dr. The owner is one Michael Scott, who supposedly made his fortune from trailer parks. The neighbors have been fighting him for almost a decade over the size of the thing, and have wrung many concessions out of him to scale it back. Not sure what the current status of the build is.

It was the simplicity of the original house and the views that it had that made it amazing.

I did some contract work at a home on SW Marine Drive here in Vancouver and, aside from Jaws and the waterfall, the homes are very similar in design. The Vancouver house has a humongous tiered back yard with a full-sized tennis court,a sand wedge/putting area, a driving range, pool, guest house + more. It was listed at $13.8 million around 4 years ago. More attention to the massive tiered back yard and less square footage to the structure. I would've thought that this Cielo property would've been listed at more than the $18 million and change USD...

Then again...housing prices are completely astronomical here.

Thanks for this walk through video!

Cheers

This does NOT include the property I spoke about BUUUUT, it gives you a good idea of the outrageous housing market here in Vancouver.

These homes are just those in the vicinity of SW Marine Drive.

Again. Not nearly the relative "bargain" of the Cielo property when you really think about it!

For all those who notice such things, and especially if you've lived in CA for a while, do you suppose the the large pine trees around the old Cielo were Monterey pines?

I had two at a house I owned in San Luis Obispo county, and the Cielo pines sure do like like them.

Also, it looks like one still survived the bulldozing/rebuild. Way around to the south end.
