"I've been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was 7 years old," [Tarantino] explained. "I'm very excited to tell this story of an LA and a Hollywood that don't exist anymore. And I couldn't be happier about the dynamic teaming of DiCaprio & Pitt as Rick & Cliff."
True crime fans may not want to get too invested in the idea of a film focused on the Manson family murders, however. Last month, producer David Heyman confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the film is not about the bloodshed the cult became known for, explaining, "It's about the loss of innocence that came about in 1969 with the Manson family."
Did I just see Brad Pitt punch clem in the face?
ReplyDeleteAnd I really hope they don't glorify Roman Polanski
ReplyDeleteHere's a review of the film by Variety who saw it at the Cannes Film Festival this week.

ReplyDeleteyeah looks good!
ReplyDeleteI haven't liked this from jump. Can't say I'm scrambling to see it. But if people dig it then great
ReplyDeleteinteresting Variety review DebS thanks. He messed with the history of the murders just as some people suspected he would.
ReplyDeleteSo I guess DiCaprio's character Rick Dalton lives at Seymour Kott's house?

And the grass on the ground smelling sweet
Move up the road
To the outside of town

Sits a ragged tent

ReplyDeleteAh, the heroes foil the murder of Sharon Tate or at least exact revenge. Ok, it's a movie. The first half sounds very cool. Second half, meh.
It’s a movie and I think the fact that he chose to tell the story with a Manson twist is cool enough for me to want to see it- I’m not watching for historical accuracy. It’s not a documentary.
ReplyDeleteI think it’ll be entertaining at the least and will watch it to appreciate the hard work and effort that went into period specific items, apparel, and sets-
I enjoyed Motley Crue The Dirt- not because I’m a huge fan or because it was historically accurate. It was an entertaining and sanitized version of their story.
It seems as if anything related to the family isn’t portrayed in a light that is picture perfect, people here get on their high horses of MF knowledge and gallop around. I’ve been involved in historic events that weren’t depicted accurately in feature film but still respect the project for what it is- entertainment.
Indeed.

But... but... being a TLB snob is half the fun!
That trailer is kind of addictive...great choice of the Neil Diamond song.
ReplyDeleteI watched the HellzBellz linked press conference at Cannes too sounds like the Spahn Ranch is in for an ass whooping just like the Nazis in Inglourious Basterds.
Apparently the ending was published in Wikipedia but then edited out. If you are so inclined, read the revision history to find d out what happens.
ReplyDeleteWow. That sounds pretty dumb. It's actually kind of in bad taste if you ask me.

DeleteThat actress that plays Sharon Tate is very good looking, but, alas, doesn't come close to capturing Sharon's beauty. Just my opinion......

It's back up. All I can say is, 'Wow, I wasn't expecting that.' But hey, it's only a movie.
Yeah, that was not what I expected either. I don't know. It's only a movie and I know I'll mostly enjoy. I do feel sorry for the victims' families if it is hurtful to them.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, Margot Robbie is beautiful, but in a different way than Sharon Tate. I can't think of any actress today who would be right for Sharon.

Cannes (France) (AFP) - Roman Polanski's wife hit out at Quentin Tarantino on Friday for not consulting her husband over his critically-acclaimed "Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood" which features Polanski's late second wife Sharon Tate as a character.
French actress Emmanuelle Seigner took to social media to accuse Tarantino of "using the tragic life of someone and then walking all over them".
Tate was eight months pregnant when she was murdered by members of the Manson family cult in 1969 while married to the Polish-born director of "Rosemary's Baby".
In a post on Instagram, Seigner said she was not attacking the film as such.
"I am just saying that it doesn't bother them (in Hollywood) to make a film which takes Roman and his tragic story... while at the same time they have made him a pariah. And all without consulting him of course," she wrote.
I read Debra Tate said she liked Robbie's portrayal of Sharon and that she captured her innocence. I wish I hadn't read the Wikipedia plot summary-oh well. Maybe he can trick us again and change the ending by July.
ReplyDeleteRIP Susan Atkins
ReplyDeleteLooks like the first TLB based movie to use the real Cielo Dr and what appears to be the real ascent up the hill by the killers
ReplyDeleteSo let's see, Tex kidnaps Sharon and brings her to Spahn and two five foot six horse jockey sized midgets like Bruce Lee and Sebring go there and save the day? This one looks like a giant fart

ReplyDeleteGotta agree. I know nothing about the industry but at some point recycling endings has to crash, cue the Primitives.
That was the point of my comment above. I don't need a documentary nor do I wish to see a pregnant Sharon Tate brutally murdered but I also don't need this. I have seen it, twice.
Already planning on seeing this the day it opens. I think Rose Byrne would've been better cast as Sharon Tate. I do like Margot Robbie tho.
