Michele Morgan

France's President Francois Hollande announced December 20th that legendary French actress Michele Morgan has passed away at the age of 96.  Her family declined to state a cause of death.

She was awarded the first Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1946 for portraying a blind woman in Pastoral Symphony.  She has more than two dozen movies to her credit.

Morgan lived in Hollywood, working for RKO Pictures during WWII and it was then that she built a home at 10050 Cielo Drive in Benedict Canyon.  The home was completed in 1941, by 1946 when the war had ended she returned to France.

Thanks to George Smith for this well done video.

I think her name was better before she changed it: Simone Renée Roussel

It was a lovely house.

When you think about what happened there later it's very eerie.

I always thought the house and whole spread was very appealing. At least it seems to have gotten a lot of good karma before the wastrel family showed up to murder, then the weasel family after that with all their electronic gear. Kind of sad also it was bulldozed for that monstrosity there now.

'Passage to Marseille' is the only movie she was in I remember. While it was an effort to recreate the magic of Casablanca (same cast) it wasn't bad for one of those during the war 'why we fight movies'.

What struck me was the lack of trees.

This may be the first time I have heard anyone justify the murders.

Rich people can be very generous in spirit and giving just as poor and middle class can be.

Mot to mention that they are real people. Not caricatures. It's just as demeaning to judge without knowing them as it is homeless people. Statements like Sam's speak to the person who spews it.

And it's such an original statement

The house was beautiful and charming when Ms. Morgan lived there. It was beginning to look kind of shabby by the time Sharon and Roman moved in.

It's amazing how naked the house seems in those early pictures without the trees and the hedges. Hardly seems like the same place from 1969.

I'm not so sure it matters when one hits 96. Unless she was murdered.

In 1941 when the house was new, landscaping was still rough and trees/grass was just planted. There is evidence of the area being "haunted". Michele noted in her memoirs of noises at night coming from the living room area like furniture being moved around. A check would reveal nothing changed. I don't know of any problems in that monstrosity occupying the lot today. David Oman living in a newer residence close by seems to have made a career from paranormal tours today.
