Old, but interesting... Roman Polanski: A Film Memoir

Folks, you have most likely seen this documentary, since it came out in 2011, but it really is interesting to hear Roman Polanski discuss his childhood and all the horrors of what he experienced before, during & after the war, his wife's brutal murder and so on...

For those of you who have never seen it, Roman is interviewed by his old friend & business partner Andrew Braunsberg, who was actually there and answered the phone when Roman got the terrible news of his wife's murder.  Anyway, it is a good documentary, in my opinion. I enjoyed seeing photos that I had never seen before of Roman in his youth. There are some tearjerker moments in it too, so if you tend to weep easily, you might want some Kleenex handy...

    Hi Ann,

Thanks for posting the footage. The reason I have quoted the above is because I had listened to the Nikolas Shreck interviews on Brian Davis' TLB Radio Podcast, and I seem to recall NS stating that when Polanski got the news he allegedly said something along the lines of "I told Jay not to do business with those f.....s out at Chatsworth". Whether that is true or not, is anyone's guess. I don't have a copy of NS' book, so I can't remember if he named his source.

Anyway, I do have great sympathy with anyone who lived in a Nazi occupied country. However, I would like to see RP extradited to the US to face a trial for that of which he is accused.

  2. Who's NS? I probably know, but I just can't think right now. Just woke up earlier and am extremely spaced out....

  3. Hi Ann, I'm guessing NS is Shreck.

equinox - I thought, and I may be mistaken in this, but I thought Roman had already plea-bargained in re those accusations. My memory is that he felt the judge had basically double-crossed him and was on the verge of reneging on the agreement so Roman fled. That, at least, is what a Polanski-obsessed friend told me. I think it's covered in the documentary Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired

  4. Polanski to Martin Amis: "If I had killed somebody, it wouldn’t have had so much appeal to the press, you see? But… fucking, you see, and the young girls. Judges want to fuck young girls. Juries want to fuck young girls. Everyone wants to fuck young girls!"

  5. Ann,

Yes, the 'NS' to whom I am referring is Nikolas Schreck. He did a radio podcast with Brian Davis, which I think Brian cut into three sections on YouTube.

    MHN,

Perhaps Polanski did plea bargain in respect of those accusations. Perhaps the US judge did renege on the agreement. I do not have the evidence, for or against, with me at the moment. However, what I will say to you is this. The Scottish Prosecution Service (a good few years ago) decided against accepting any form of plea bargaining because we saw so many in the US walk free when they should have been doing time for their role in a crime. Here in Bonny Jockland, you can only be convicted on the basis of two pieces of independent evidence. No system of prosecution in any country is perfect. You do your best with what is available, but sadly, in the US, this idea of plea bargaining allows so many guilty to walk.

  6. eq - yes indeed, and please don't think I was remotely defending RP's actions in this matter or making excuses for his flight.

  7. @MHN,

No probs, I am fully appreciative of your personal integrity. Take care.

  8. The Polannski case is certainly a complicated one, BUT if you were a lawyer you would know that these "verbal" messages from the judge via YOUR lawyer is a very RISKY business - for the DEFENDANT.

If NOTHING is in writing, and even a cop knows EVERYTHING must be in writing to be of substantial value, you are at the mercy of a "lawyer" judge.

What Polanski did get could even be considered a "privileged" 2nd CHANCE from the judge, BUT he blew it by getting his photo taken (having a great old time) while still under the judge's jurisdiction. STUPID, DUMB, IGNORANT !

These verbal "probationary" periods are well KNOWN to be "good little boy" showcses for the DEFENDANT to prove himself to be a punished little ANGEL.

The fact that Polanski didn't "get-it" could mean HIS attorneys "fucked" him OR he "fuckeded" himself. Either way, HE did get "fucked" - maybe NOT unlike HE "fucked" that little girl.

"Payback can be a bitch." Best quote I ever heard.

  9. Ahhh a fat one out over the middle of the plate. Sorry- I gotta take a big swing at this one lol I have had a really rough couple of weeks- allow me to vent for a second if you will friends :)

ok- question... I gave drugs to, and raped, younger girls. I made jokes about it. when it came time to pay for my crimes- I took zero responsibility and fled. shortly after the TLB crimes- I am on record smiling and laughing- making jokes. Who am I?

If you said Charles Manson you would be correct, but if you said Roman Polanski- you would be just as correct.

So here we have a guy who let his very pregnant wife sail across the ocean without him- to stay with a guy he later said he knew was trouble. Here we have a guy who was making jokes and playing with police when they were trying to get to the bottom of his pregnant wife's murder. Here is a guy who lied to, and cheated on, that pregnant wife.A guy who took advantage of and raped underage girls. Here is a guy who told our Country and System that he is above it and not going to answer to it, and then left when he was asked to pay a price. today- He laughs at us.

I watched this documentary and it does show some unique things and have some interesting facts- I hope this not disrespectful to Austin Ann in any way :)

But F roman and his tough childhood. F every Hollywood asshole who defends him because he is good at his art. That's like defending Charlie for his music/environment. Why not find someone who is good at making movies who isn't a low-life scumbag to get behind? F every country that we help out who wont give him back to us. F the people who helped him escape jsutice and F Angelica for not getting that poor girls some help that night- she knew what was going on...

Roman Polanski is a self-centered deuchebag who cares only for his own pleasure and purposes. He never deserved someone like Sharon....

Karma has not delivered yet to this bastard, but I am waiting...

  10. St Circumstance (my favourite saint),

Thanks for a great post - as always!!! I hope that things get better for you in days to come because I am sure that the regular readers of this blog know you have been going through hell.

    My thoughts are with you.

  12. Love your post, Saint. I wish you good health soon.
You mentioned Roman letting Sharon return to the US to live with someone he knew was trouble. That's something I'll never understand, either. In fact, why were VF and Abigail still living at Cielo after Sharon returned home?

    ReplyDelete
  13. I don't think it's ever been established that VF was as deeply involved with drug dealing as some assume. People say it about Hinman too, but that one doesn't wash with me either. It was convenient for Polanski to say that in the wake of the massacre - especially if HE was either the target or if it was retribution for still unsubstantiated transgressions.

The VF drug dealing argument seems like a reach to me. Drug dealing requires some work. You need to work slowly, build a network, build trust. Plus, it's risky. Shit, this guy was living with an heiress. Getting her pregnant would be a MUCH easier path to an easy life.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Even if VF had been a Boy Scout, I still don't understand why he and Abigail had to live with Sharon when she came back to the states. They had their own home and Sharon had Jay and her family to look after her.

Sorry, Matt, but this sounds like a career option which you considered at some point in your life:):) A sort of toyboy/gigolo, but ended up running a Manson blog instead!

  16. Carol, Sharon's family was in Rancho Palos Verdes which is quite a haul, especially in traffic. Plus, I'm not feeling Jay Sebring as a dependable friend in an emergency. Could he be there at a moment's notice? I doubt it. He traveled a lot and had a growing empire to oversee. Would he be sober? That's debatable.

Emergencies aside, at 8 1/2 mos pregnant you need help with getting around the house. Not to mention someone to keep you company.

It makes sense to me that Gibbie would be a better choice. VF was there by default.

My thoughts exactly, Matt. Also, if I'm abroad and my wife says to me, "don't worry, my handsome former fiance has promised to look after me in your absence", I'd be on the phone to my Woytek and my Gibbie as quick as I could.

That's the cheat's punishment - he cannot trust anyone because he has the example of human deceit and dishonesty looking him in the mirror at every moment.

  18. And yet, even with Abigail and VF living at Cielo, Jay was there all the time anyway. I'm not sure Roman even cared that Jay was still so close to Sharon.

  19. Jacques Hondorus - his business card was found by the cops next to Sharon's telephone - see IF you can find that in ANY available police report !

  20. I don't either, Carol. Jay kept Sharon out of his hair...

  21. St., I do not take offense at all. I never said I liked Roman Polanski. I do like his movies though. :-)

  25. Just to be clear because no one told me to stifle myself- that cunt Robin Olson forgot to use a proxy yesterday, confirming once and for all that she is Vera Dreiser. So to be clear, after years of denying that Vera was the hate-filled homophobic Robin, this is now confirmed.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Mr. Hendrickson is Hondorus the "psychic" who allegedly warned Sharon to leave her house?
Sharon was having "classes" with him?

And please, somebody explain to me who is Vera/Robin (well thy're the same person), i mean, it seems nobody likes her but she seems to know a lot about this case.

    Thanks

  28. CrisPOA: Vera, we now know, is Robin Olson. Five years ago Robin Olson was having a torrid affair with Matt and Col Scott at the same time, in order to try to gain control of the complete online legacy of the TLB murders, and thereby be allowed to attend the parole board hearings, during which she planned to legally adopt Tex Watson's mustache. When Matt and Col Scott discovered her deceit they teamed up with Alisa Statman (whose name was originally Alias Stuntman) and used their combined powers to confine Olson/Dreiser to a small corner of the darknet reserved for blasphemers, psychos, and ranting trolls. I thought everyone here knew that?

Michael, not only did they team up with Alisa Statman, but by that time, they had fallen deeply in love with each other - their respective spouses don't know about it - yet.

  33. Off the Polanski post subject. Just heard Bruce Davis was found eligible for parole again. Course Gov. Jerry Brown has 120 days to block it.

Yes, Six Miles, if I remember correctly, the Governor's decision of 2014 was upheld this year by the California Supreme Court after Bruce had appealed. This is now his fourth pass from the California Parole Board. It must give some hope to Leslie.

  35. Bruce should say his plans upon release are getting a job with Jerry's High Speed Rail project.
