Finally watched it all the way through. It puts Manson in perspective according to the 60's and the Beach Boys' place during that time. Well well worth investing an hour to watch.
Hi. Sorry I'm posting this here- it's unrelated to the video- but if I posted it in the 'Coda: The Mendocino Murders' comment thread I suspect it might not be seen, and then no one would realize how smart & interesting I am (har har). I just wanted to add a little something to what Mr. Hendrickson wrote there. So- sorry for derailing your contribution, Chats, hope you don't mind. :)
Just wanted to point out some interesting little additions to what Robert wrote there about black Muslims & the Nation of Islam & race war, that throw a weird slant on things. Interestingly, the Nation of Islam in the 60s forged links with George Lincoln Rockwell's American Nazi Party. There's a famous photo of Rockwell & ANP members at a Nation of Islam Rally (http://www.anthonyflood.com/Rockwell_at_Nation_of_Islam_Rally.jpg). You can read a good quick summary of why this happened here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Lincoln_Rockwell#American_Nazi_Party) or a more detailed account here (http://www.anthonyflood.com/rockwellelijah.htm).
Rockwell also discusses his admiration for Elijah Muhammad & Malcolm X in a speech, I think it's this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGsFMmcIfOw) though I'm not 100% sure of that. Know this isn't entirely relevant to Manson, but it does throw a WEIRD angle on the black/white race war concept of his beliefs, especially considering Manson's own ties to Nazi prison gangs and his association with black Muslims in prison.
Sorry for going off-track. Hope no one minds too much. :)
Realised 'association' was probably the wrong word in that last sentence- 'observation', maybe? Anyone know whether Manson actually rapped with Black Muslims or just was aware of what they were doing in the prisons?
Bruce Davis's face reminds me of Bruce Johnston's of the Beach Boys It's funny how many of these interviews are done in front of a swimming pool. Thanks Chatsworth.
@ Mr.Humphrat; Wasnt that the question wether a child was on that Pic. too. On that particulair Foto in that post there was only a piece of the upper legg visable on the right side next to an adult...... Now we can see the complete image , I ask myself ,,Who is that child,, ?? And about this post: I seen this before, but just bits&pieces. Now watched it completely, Good German info-docu on the sixties. And just as Matt sayd, gives some good perspective as what was happening those days.
Neil Young was on the Stern show today and spoke very briefly about Manson. Nothing new really, but cool to hear it from his mouth. He mentioned they hung a few times up at Dennis Wilson's house. He was really impressed with Manson's ability to make up songs on the spot. He said most of it was gibberish but every now and again Manson would sing something really great. Young said he felt Manson could sing forever. Neil said that the girls were strange, that they could only see Charlie.
It's good to have a clear video of Anger himself telling of Beausoleil stealing the first version of Lucifer Rising: "He broke into my studio and took the reels, took them down to where Manson was staying in Death Valley at the time. ...and they sent a girl up saying I could have them back for $10,000 and I said well, I don't pay extortion"

Also worthy of note at 47:07 is the great TV moments when Belushi and Akroyd get Brian Wilson out of bed to go surfing. I just love that.
whoops again 47:15
