Nellis Auction house in Las Vegas has large lot of Bobby Beausoleil's items coming up for bid in a couple of days. This lot has a bounty of great stuff. Described as:
"Massive Collection of original paintings/drawings erotica, original drawings and paintings for book by Beausoleil, entire book assembled, court transcripts, Truman Capote radio interview file, photograph collection: Beausoleil, Manson and others signed and dated"
Debs, Well done to you for finding this. Does anyone know who is the seller? Is it BB trying to raise some cash? I wonder if a certain film producer who is rather fond of BB will be bidding.
ReplyDeleteI have been looking through the items which are included in this auction lot. There is a naked photograph of Kitty L., and another of her with baby,Jene. If it is Bobby who is selling these items, then shame on him. On the other hand, in amongst the items there is a letter where Bobby tells his correspondent that when he was put (wrongly in the 'hole') that items were stolen from his sell and he was never able to retrieve some of them. Perhaps the two photos were taken from him.
ReplyDeleteThe letter which I fouhd to be hilarious is the one from a deluded female who has never met BB, but goes to great lengths to profess her undying love for him.
I wish to edit my above post. When I use the phrase 'stolen from his sell', I was meaning 'stolen from his cell'.
ReplyDeleteThe naked photo of Kitty is actually very good. Tastefully done.
ReplyDeleteThe promoter wouldn't tell me who profits from this, but we ran it anyway.
Yer welcome, Beth...
Hi Matt,
ReplyDeleteI don't understand your reference to 'Beth'. I am most certainly NOT that person. I am merely wondering if BB is cashing in to fund legal help for his next parole board meeting, for example. Whoever it is that has possession of these items certainly seems to have access to an awful lot of confidential documents. If it is not BB who is auctioning the items, then you think he would be able to take action to get them back. If it is not BB, then given the volume and intimacy of the documents, then he must have a fair idea who it is that is selling them.
Sorry if I have offended.

ReplyDeleteNot at all, equinox. Beth is Bobby B's webmaster. We had a little fun at her expense a while back. It was all in good fun, but we wanted to do these two posts as a way to make up for any ill feelings that may exist.
ReplyDeleteEquinox, I do not know who has put this stuff up for auction either but I think one of the people that has a murderabilia website is from Las Vegas where the auction is being held. Also, the estimate for the gavel price is quite high, even at the low end, and those murderabilia sites have highly inflated prices, imo.
ReplyDeleteIt's just a guess on my part that it's one of the murderabilia guys who is auctioning off this stuff.
Matt,
ReplyDeleteThanks for that. The thing that mystifies me is (assuming it is not BB selling the items) how do collectors get hold of this kind of stuff because pieces like the two photos of Kitty are very personal. I should think that Kitty would have sent them to BB in prison.
I seem to recall after the 2010 parole refusal, BB asking people on his Facebook page for any ideas of how he could raise money because he didn't have the resources to appeal.
Perhaps he was left with bills to settle up after his wife's passing.
It will be interesting to see what the auction achieves.
Patty learned the hard way in her youth that if you take photos like that they will NEVER go away. Well, she thinks they are finally gone. there were only two of them. Thats life.
ReplyDeleteAmen. Although I do keep the ones of an ex as a deterrent, for when he pesters me for a reunion. :)
DeleteWOOT!
DeleteA lot of times, prison guards steal stuff. They are scum bags too.
ReplyDeleteI noticed that a lot BB's paintings are of red-headed women. I have always wondered why.
Oh, also, I bet there are a lot of photos of the Spahn ranch days that have never been seen before. Wasn't there a whole book worth of photos, letters, etc that Squeaky had, and the federal authorities have them in their control?
ReplyDeleteReally sucks that whoever selling the stuff - even if it's Bobby - didn't return the pics of Kitty/Kitty-Jene to them.
ReplyDeleteAt present, the bidding is only at $800, and yet the estimated price is $6500-$25,000.
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see if when the hammer finally drops, if the price achieved is well below the estimate. If that were to be the case, it may be an indication that anything BB related is not in such great demand. I recall from either the 2008 or 2010 parole transcripts, that BB was told that his paintings would not provide him with a sufficient income on the outside.
BB seems to be convinced that he's a world-renowned recording star, which will provide him with a comfortable living. The board knocked him into reality at his last hearing, though. They told him the glamour & memories he has of being up on stage are over. He doesn't seem to realize how hard it is out there to make a living. There aren't going to be thousands upon thousands of "fans" lining up to buy his overpriced cds, or art. He is BB, not Bono.
ReplyDeleteAustin Ann,
ReplyDeleteYou are right on the money with your comments - well said. BB is living well in the past! The parole board did indeed put him in his place as regards his future earnings as a 'recording artist/painter'. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and my opinion is that he is not particularly talented in the areas of music or art. The USA has so many talented musician/singer/songwriters (particularly ones who have not held friends captive for three days and then murdered them!!).
I am very keen to see what this auction lot goes for. If it is well below the expected price, then all I can say is that he can forget anyone giving him big bucks for his life story, or consultancy role in making yet another Manson Family Film.
I am going to be really cynical here (or perhaps deeply unpleasant!) and say that if he had been let out on parole, it probably would have taken him all of five minutes to be unfaithful to the wife who had stood by him for many years.
The man is a compulsive liar/egotist.
Austin Ann,
ReplyDeleteWhile I am on the subject, apart from her family and friends, who on earth would want to buy art/goods from the late Barbara Beausoleil's site? I am sincerely not trying to be unpleasant here, but simply realistic. These people are not particularly talented. The United States of America is full to the brim of very talented artists. I suggest if anyone so wishes, buy from them, rather than those who have some sort of 'notoriety' through their connection to particularly repugnant murderers.
I wanted to buy a print of Barbara's from them, & did so. "I suggest" to you that art is subjective, & talent is in the eye of the beholder (purchaser). It's a beautiful print and looks great matted and framed, hanging on the wall of my house. So very sorry I didn't follow your humble "suggestions", nor do I agree with your assessment of their artistic abilities. For which gallery do you curate, BTW?
DeletePlease take a look at the description from the auction house regarding the BB lot before it disappears after the auction end. They keep on referring to Gary Hinman as 'Hinson'. How disrespectful!! At least make the effort to get the deceased's name correct.
ReplyDeleteSweet picture of Kitty and Jene though
ReplyDeleteWelcome, Rose. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, welcome to the blog, Rosie!
ReplyDeleteEquinox, I know what you mean. Of course, I am not taking away from BB's talent. The man CAN draw/paint, and pick the hell outta a guitar, but does he have legions of "fans" knocking down the door, wanting his work? How about getting a recording contract? Uh, I don't know about that. I mean, I feel kinda sorry for the old guy. Being a senior citizen in prison cannot be fun. Of course, BB wasn't thinking about being a senior citizen in prison when he, along with two of the ugliest skanks in the Manson Family joined him in smothering the life out of Gary Hinman. No doubt about it, BB is not going to be vacating his cell any time soon to head to Hollywood to sign with David F*cking Geffen! Dig?
ReplyDeleteThe # 1 person who mixes up the names of the victims is LA Assistant DA Patrick Sequeira. In parole hearings, he always accidentally calls people Gary Hinman, or he'll call Mr. Beausoleil, Mr. Hinman, etc. It makes him look like a buffoon. He also has mixed up Steve Parent's name. I know the man has a job to do, but he is so busy trying to resell the Helter Skelter theory, that he gets like an overexcited child in a candy store when telling the parole board things. Calm down, don't mix up people's names, and do your job. Don't add fuel to the fire. It is very disrespectful, even though he doesn't do it on purpose, that I am aware of. He just talks too much!
ReplyDeleteThe BB auction went for $3,400 - in other words way below the stated estimate of $6,500 - $25,000. So, that leads me to believe that there is not so much interest in Bobby related items as he would like to believe.
ReplyDeleteRight? I see what you mean!
DeleteHi Austin Ann,
ReplyDeleteYes, he can paint and draw, I just think that there are too many more talented artists in the US for him to make a living at it on the outside. I am by no means an art expert, but to an extent his work looks to me of the standard of a talented amateur. On the subject of guitar playing, now there is something I do know about - he is competent, and that's all. Someone over at 'The Truth About Tate La Bianca' said that they have listed to his stuff online and they don't believe he is especially skilled. Again, the music industry worldwide is full of excellent axemen!! Ans yes, you are correct, no respected record company would be signing him up any time soon!!
I am also of the opinion that his late wife was even less talented artistically. I've seen teenagers produce better paintings In fact, when I watched the video clips of her 'exotic' dancing, I felt embarrassed for her. I have seen that dance form done so much better. That may sound nasty because I am speaking about a deceased person, but my feeling is that both Beausoleil's were deluded as to their respective 'talents'. The two of them seemed to want to portray themselves as sort of mystical/special artists. Also, the linke to her website is brought to people's attention through BB's FB page, so they shouldn't be surprised if there are those who express and opinion her talent was minimal. Sorry and all that.
Bobby's original paintings only go for $700, and therefore I can see how the Parole Board told him that was an insufficient amount to maintain himself, if paroled.
It is debatable as to how much he would get for his life story given that he has difficulty telling the truth about anything. Doubtlessly, any film or book deal would involve a revisionist history on his part.
I also wonder if he has ever contributed a Dime towards the upkeep of the three children (that is the three that we know of).
He made his own misery. He deliberately entered the home of a friend who had been good to him in the past; pistol whipped the guy; refused him medical help; held him against his will for three days; stabbed him twice and then helped to smother him. He added to the indignity by using Gary's blood to smear the walls. He then stole what little possessions Gary had. When he returned to the crime scene, he related to others that he was amused at the sound of the maggots eating Gary's body.
In an way, I think his crime was as repugnant as the TLB ones. The TLB victims met their end much quicker than poor Gary.
I would be really surprised if BB ever gets past the CA parole board, and then the Governor. Bobby has changed his story more often than some people change their underwear.
Sorry if the above seems harsh, but I am just saying it as I see it.
I agree with what you are saying totally! They tortured Gary, no doubt about it. Yeah, he isn't ever getting out because of the actual crime, and still, he goes before the board and sort of bashes the victim. He keeps sticking to that story that he was there to collect on a debt, which is ridiculous. Blabbermouth Sadie would of yapped to at least someone, if that were true. He also told the board this last time around that "Dan DeCarlo" drove him to Gary's house, along with Bruce Davis. He also said that Dan DeCarlo told him what to do with the gun. Liar! He justs hates Danny, because he testified against him. I could go on and on....email me, equinox, and I will really give you a virtual earfull!!
DeleteAustinAnn,
ReplyDeleteAs requested, I have emailed you at AustinAnn@mansonblog.com.
Let me know if you don't receive it.
Kind regards
Thank you Equinox for keeping tabs on the auction and the eventual price the lot went for, it's appreciated.
ReplyDeleteBoth Bobby and Barbara's art strikes me that it is more like the work an illustrator would do. Their work seems commercial, like they are trying to sell an idea or product as opposed to an artist who creates from the soul evoking what is within that artist. I guess I'm saying that Bobby and Barbara's art is superficial to me and does not leave me with the feeling that I've learned anything or gained a different perspective of how to look at something.
I have read forum posts that Bobby Beausoleil had three children but from what I can tell he has one daughter, Jene (of whom the only photo out there is one when she was an infant). Has Jene ever granted an interview or spoken to bloggers, or has she chosen to remain out of the public eye? Does anyone know the names of his other children? I'm assuming these children were not with Kitty but with different mother(s) and were conceived after he landed in prison?
ReplyDeleteI know that Ivan, Sandy Good's son, was fathered by Bobby but don't recall who the other child was mothered by at the moment.
ReplyDeleteThe eldest daughter was mothered by BB's first wife Gail. All three "kids" have good relationships with each other as far as we can tell.
