  5. I'm going to watch this, but t have a feeling there will be the usual historical inaccuracies in most Manson movies. I bet they skip over the Hinman and Shea murders, and Zero's death.

"My name is Debra Tate and I'm here to represent Gary's sister and her feelings on this heinous crime that was committed. First of all, I want to let the Board know that Mr. Davis has never reached out to any of the family, which is one of the most basic of 12- step programs. And that hole is very weighty in the victim's kin's mind. I'm going to leave her name off this letter so I don't want it entered into the record as she still has great fear. "I have no knowledge of who Renee Riley is nor does not speak for myself or the Hinman family."

  7. So, it would seem that Gary's sister has indeed appointed DT to represent them at hearings AND that the Hinman family acknowledges no connection to Renne Riley.

  8. Did she pull a JimNY and sabotage someone's parole chances? Sequeira relishes nut jobs who can't mind their business. Loves to use it against the inmate at hearings.

  9. This is why Patty has never written to any of these guys and gals, and probably never will. Its one thing to be an outside observer. Its another thing to end up a "personal friend" or even relative! Someone asked Patty, "do you love Charlie Manson?" Patty said, "Ive never met him." As it should stay.

  10. Bruce was granted parole regardless of the statement by Debra from Gary's sister so whatever Sequeira hoped to gain didn't happen. Actually that statement by Debra about Renee Reilly may have hurt Sequeira because Renee has spoken out via letters which Sequeira presented at Bruce's last hearing and at Bobby's last hearing, too. At the least it pretty much shows that Sequeira doesn't do a lot to make sure the stuff he is presenting is checked and double checked by his staff and at the worst it makes him look sneaky by trying to slide something by that isn't true.

At Bruce's last hearing Sequeira had Debra representing Kay Martley because he said that Martley was Gary's closest living relative. The Colonel pretty much blew that notion out of the water with this post-

Both of Gary's sisters are still living. Somebody lied and it wasn't only Renee Reilly!

  11. Possibly the same person Deb? Martley = Marley?

  12. I think the person that comments and chats as Marley is Renee but Kay Martley and Renee Reilly are two different people. Renee is much younger and lives in the south whereas Kay lives in Colorado. Kay is not hard to find by Googling, there are even pictures of her!

  13. Listen, I think Debra Tate has a right to loathe anybody and everybody that was in the Manson Family, but, I don't think she should be able to appear at all of their hearings. I understand her hate, I really do, but why has she taken it a step further than her mother did, or her sister ever did? Bruce Davis didn't actually murder Gary, so why go? Does she represent other families of victims that were killed by regular murderers, and not Manson Family victims?

  14. DT attention seeking. The more she fails the harder she tries., and the dirtier the methods get.

'Oh what a tangled web we weave, When first we practise to deceive.'
    Walter Scott.

It's a quote that comes to mind a lot on anything Manson related.

  15. Hello- I'm a long time lurker, not a poster but I've always wondered why so many people say Debra Tate is the only member of her family to oppose the parole of any members of the " Manson Family" who weren't directly connected to the murder of her sister. Didn't Doris Tate begin her crusade for victims rights by starting a campaign against the possible release of Leslie VanHouten? She wasn't involved in Sharon's murder. That's just something I've always wondered about, I have nothing for or against Debra Tate personally I've just never understood why people seem to forget that Doris Tate did indeed fight against the parole of VanHouten who wasn't involved with Sharon's death. Just curious it seems like something that is pretty well known but often forgotten. I always question that thinking when I read it so I finally decided to jump in and ask about it. Anyway, I enjoy this blog, it's amazing how many people still talk about these crimes so many years later.

  16. Ann, I believe that Sequeira asked Debra to speak at the hearings and of course she was more than willing.

The Hinman family and the Shea family have written letters in the past but not attended hearings. But now that everyone has been in prison for 40+ years there is a greater chance that one or more of them will be released particularly since this is the third time that Bruce has been granted parole.

I think that Sequeira wants the board to see Debra and an ex-Family member representing these family members of the victims because it's a good show and connects Bruce and Bobby back to the Tate LaBianca murders if only in the minds of the board members and public. Personally I believe it's kind of a dirty thing to do. Justice is suppose to be blind but it looks to me like the DA's office is just trying to rig the outcome.

I feel if the system expects the prisoners to be honest and rightly so because that is part of their rehabilitation then the DA should be honest, too, and not try to be underhanded in the way things are presented.

  17. Krissy, I totally forgot about that! You are right. Doris Tate did fight against Leslie Van Houten, but did she attend her parole hearings? I don't know. I guess I should know these things, but I don't.

  18. I think the DA's office new that Bruce Davis was going to have a shot this time at getting out, so Sequeira wasn't there, but two more DA's took his place. I've never seen two DAs attend a parole hearing of Bruce Davis's before. Of course, I could be wrong, but I don't think they wanted the outcome that they got.

  19. Thanks for the reply Ann- I don't know if Doris actually attended any of LVH's parole hearings or not. I never heard that she did but don't know for sure. I do get the difference between actually going to a hearing and working for someone's release behind the scenes I've just always wondered why it seems people forget that Doris did that. It's a good thing she did IMO if it helped her to get started with her victims right work and learn to deal with her grief. I can't imagine losing a loved one to murder it would probably break me.

  20. Ann I haven't read the hearing yet and didn't know that Sequeira wasn't there. Thanks for letting me know.

  21. Krissy, I agree with you. I am 100% behind victims rights, and I am very happy Doris Tate worked to get laws passed protecting victims, and victims families. I think it woke her up out of her constant nightmare, even though she was never the same person again, probably.

  22. Krissy Dean, I'm pretty sure that Doris and Patty only attended hearings for the people that were involved in Sharon's death.....

  23. Doris Day just turned 90 and is way out-living her only child Terry Melcher: This got me to thinking about back in the mid-seventies when we arrived in Cincinatti, Ohio for a Press conference (RE: the opening of 1973 MANSON) seems most all the reporters did their homework and wanted to talk about Doris Day being a native daughter just like Manson was a native son. To them it seemed to hold some strange significance.

So I began googling Day and Melcher. and guess what: As well as "House of Manson," there is another film "Bigger than the Beatles" also with Ryan Kiser, but this time he's playing "Paul" of Manson Family fame. This one is supposed to be more about the Beach Boy / Melcher / Manson "upset" connection.

GEE, what happened to the Black and White race WAR ?

I think the reporters also saw a similar celebrity-like connection between Doris Day and Sharon Tate.

  24. Is it wrong to say this actress is not pretty enough to play Sharon?

    ReplyDelete
  25. No but u are a bit biased, Carol. ;)

  26. YES Patty, BUT the "Final Battle of Armageddon" (AKA HS) could be such a great epic on the big screen - in the footsteps of "300" "Noah", etc. where "American Idol Wannabe leaves bloody message for music producer" not so much.

My God ! Let's all give thanks to Bugliosi for making just another murder into the "Crime of the Century."

I hereby nominate Mr. "B" for the "Prosecutor's Hall of Fame" Award.

  29. The casting overall looks as horrible as Healter Skelter 2004 which means it will probably be as horrible of a movie as Healter Skelter 2004. My girlfriend's client is playing Gypsy - and she ain't no Gypsy!

  30. Greetings from another long time lurker who finds this blog fascinating.

As someone mentioned Bruce Davis' parole, can someone clarify for me if Bruce IS definitely "home free"? I'm not au fait with California state law but I seem to recall something along the lines of the governor being able to put the kaibosh on a successful parole bid at the last minute (like Bruce's last parole bid). Is there something like 30 days in which the decision can be overturned and, if so, has this period since passed or is there still time remaining?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Welcome, bacupaul. It's nice to have lurkers get involved.

My understanding is that the Governor has 120 days to decide.

I'm buried in a project & can't do the checking right now. Deb is the expert on this so I'll wait for her to check in.
