Jeepers! Original Cielo owner was scared in Cielo house!

Michèle Morgan was the original owner of the Cielo house. She actually had the place custom built for her, but didn't end up keeping it, because, well, she was hearing things in it at night coming from the LIVING ROOM area! Could it be possible that a house can have bad vibes in it from the get-go? Could there have been some kind of "presence" on the actual land? Over the years, I have heard many stories about the Benedict canyon area, but never knew what to believe. Read on, and do share with us what you think:

  3. Always remember, there are two stories for every side.

Robert Byrd was the architect for the Cielo home as is evidenced by whimsical or Disney-esque visual enhancements. Notice the physically impossible dormers on the roof? Too low to be functional, but they add a character which breaks up an otherwise long roofline. How about that entry door to the second story of the garage? It’s barely functional since the ceiling drops radically on both sides, but like the house, it gives a comfortable sense of being larger. Neat design elements, but very expensive so they are rarely seen in today’s Levittowns, where homeowners associations dither over which color of beige to approve as official.

So what’s the story with Ms. Morgan? She was an actress of French origin who happened to move to the USA. And by ‘happened to move’, I mean running and screaming after the NAZI invasion just like an… umm.. ahh… Frenchman. While in the country she experienced moderate if any real success in Hollywood. But compared to living in an occupied country, while the globe braced for total warfare, one may just want to reconsider the definition of success. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. So after a period of time she moves back to France, where she lives today. And by ‘a period of time’, I mean after war was over and it was totally safe for people in France, particularly the French.

Gosh, that story doesn’t look so good on paper, and sounds even worse, so in the spirit of revisionism, it’s time for some more lore. OK, ok, here’s what really happened. I was on a whirlwind tour of the planet, when Hitler decided to do the same. Damn the bad luck, because I was stuck in California with that monotonously pleasant weather, and self directed government. My struggles and sacrifices were many as I tried to eke out a living, and try to place a few crusts of bread on my table. We were so impoverished that the only land we could afford was miles from anything resembling civilization, and were forced to hire an architect with no sense of scale or proportion. It was this very lack of Feng Shui which caused us to bump heads on beams, hear creaks and moans, and other ghastly happenings which I simply can’t describe. We were forced out of our home and chased mercilessly back to France. Then the Manson killings occurred just as I had predicted.

I think the new Cielo structure has a creepy feeling in that it’s as welcoming as a courthouse or mausoleum, but apparently that’s the new symbol of opulence. If the very land is cursed, then the bevy of construction projects in the area, are showing no concerns. Something really bad happened in a tranquil and bucolic setting, designed as a happy home, and that collision of forces is what ‘creeps me out’ the most.

  4. I think I would of been scared staying in the house too, by myself, because it was so long & spread out. The kitchen was all the way on the other side of the house. Didn't Mrs. Tate have a nightmare about that house too? Sometimes places have bad vibes attached to them. I completely believe there might of been bad vibes attached to the actual property before there were any houses built. The whole canyon is creepy, if you ask me!

  5. This is my first post though I am a longtime lurker here.

Wow. I had no idea the original owner was still alive. Having driven up Cielo Drive numerous times in the 2000's, it feels creepy but I attribute that to knowing what happened there in '69. It is though, quite isolated which would, I imagine, have been a benefit for a privacy starved celebrity. I still think its sad that the original home was torn down and that monster McMansion built there but if it were up to me, I would have wanted the 10050 house to be declared a historic landmark.

  7. Trent Reznor rented the house to record music and I think I read that he left the place because it finally got to him and it was too much to deal with. He took the front door with him (see article w/photo below). Article also draws a connection between Aleister Crowley and Manson.

"Reznor had a chance meeting with murder victim Sharon Tate’s sister, in which she came right to the point and asked him, “Are you exploiting my sister’s death by living in her house?” Raznor responded that he was merely fascinated by the “Folklore” associated with the residence. At some point during an interview, Reznor explained that the conversation with Tate’s sister gave him a new perspective about his choice of residence. According to Raznor, her question upset him so much that he went home and “cried” over the encounter, thinking “what if it was my sister”?"

  8. Marilyn Manson said in his book that while he was recording there, at the house, they experienced some weird things, like one of Charlie Manson's songs appearing on the playback tape. He said he could not explain HOW the song got on there.
Also, I don't remember if it was MM, or Trent Reznor, but one of them woke up there, in the middle of the night, and a coyote was staring in the window at him. WTF? I've lived around coyotes my whole life, and NEVER has one come up to the house, and stare in the window. I would flip OUT completely if that was to happen. Overall, I think the property has bad vibes attached to it. I think it always has, even when the French lady built the house way back in 1941. NOW, if that isn't scary enough, Sharon Tate's mother had a nightmare about that house too. She dreamt that her, and Sharon were in the living room, and a COWBOY walked in, and was very nice, then all of a sudden started shooting at them. She remembered she woke up, and realized that Sharon had not made it out of the living room alive in the nightmare.

Either that OR he wasn't selling enough records to afford the rent.....

  10. Her bedroom doesn't fit with the floor plan that I'm familiar with.

  11. Benedict Canyon, the entire area, is poisonous. Soured ground. Four minutes away from 10050 Cielo Drive is 10021 Westwanda Drive, where 50s actress Yvette Vickers lived...and died. She was, in her later years, convinced that she was being "stalked", that someone (or some thing) was after her. She 'disappeared' sometime, I believe, in 2009. In 2010, a neighbor had to make her way to the windows of the small dilapidated house as the entire property was overgrown and found Ms. Vickers' mummified remains on her living room floor. She had been dead, they figure, about 10 months to a year. The cause of death was never determined. Sharon had seen a premonition when she had stayed with Jay Seibring in a house where another actor from the 1930s died under mysterious circumstances. George "Superman" Reeves died at 1579 Benedict Canyon Road. Author Timothy Leary died there in 1996. If you do some research, you will find that the entire area is laden with death and despair. It's evil...an evil place.

  12. That area involves a lot of good and bad stories. It is a quiet place to live but at the same time unsettling especially if someone intends to live alone there. The apparent beauty of the house wouldn't make up for it. Michele Morgan said something like that, she believed it was not a pleasant experience to be alone in that house at night, listening to one's own thoughts and the echo of strange noises. I can't blame her and I believe it wouldn't change being accompanied or not, this would not make much difference because the feeling of isolation would remain and the impression that the place may or may not be playing tricks on you and that this feeling is very real and not just imagination.

Sharon felt the same way and allowed strangers to enter the house, being friends of her friends, and unfortunately for her that would not only be a nest of dreams, but the place she inadvertently chose to die, in such a horrible way.

For reasons that cause chills, her mother had a nightmare in which her daughter died violently in that living room; Doris Tate all along lived in fear of her daughter abruptly being removed from the family nucleus. And she also asked, in fact begged, for Sharon to stay for a while at the Tate family home while waiting for the baby to arrive. Ironically some, including Sharon herself, might think that the mother was being a little intrusive and therefore exaggerated being too protective of the offspring. She died probably recalling her mother's request and called for her while she was dying.
