Sunday 10th of August 1969, Kalizma, Thames
The wedding went off without a hitch and there were a few moist eyes here and there. Quite a lot of photographers to give tiny air of importance to the whole proceedings and last night we were all on the TV in the news. All good stuff and very nice for Bob and Gwladys. Not very nice, however was the news that lovely Sharon Tate, wife of film director Roman Polanski, was one of the victims of a mass-murder in LA. She was pregnant, which somehow or other makes it worse. It is all very odd, and perfectly like one of Polanski's films, because all his films have bizarre sex killings, etc. in them, and E (his nickname for Elizabeth Taylor) wonders if it was some "nut" who was carrying out in practice what Polanski preached in theory. In which case Elizabeth is due to be beheaded. The poor little thing was apparently strangled and then hung from a beam. We shall find out more details today from the newspapers. And then we must send off a letter of condolence to Polanski because E likes him very much, and says he's a sweet, little man. I do believe that Mrs. Polanski is the only person I've ever met who was murdered. Friends of mine have been killed, but not murdered.....

I had two friends who were murdered. They were clerks on the night shift at different convenience stores.
Hey Ann,
I know what you mean about taking a break. I read autobiographies while taking time off from true crime too. Sometimes I need a break from the yuckiness of the world. Burton sounds pretty interesting!
I was on a kick reading books about old country singers for a while, like Tammy Wynette and Waylon Jennings. Makes my life seem super boring. :)
Ugh, that wasn't Jason it was Heidi. Sorry.
Heidi, you can set Google accounts so that when you close the browser it automatically logs you out...
Damn you woman. I also took it out of the library and was just going to post it on the blog. Beat me to it.
Taylor said, "it was some "nut" who was carrying out in practice what Polanski preached in theory" and then Burton writes, "because E likes him very much, and says he's a sweet, little man"? Seems like Taylor's feelings were confused over Polanski.
(Interesting side note: Recently read that Cary Grant and Dyan Cannon rented 10050 Cielo Dr. for their Honeymoon.)
Richard Burton's diary has actually been one of the most entertaining books I have read lately. He had a sense of humor from hell! Another one I recommend is the Damien Echols book "Life After Death." I couldn't put that one down. I read it in 2 days.
Haha...
Admittedly, I haven't read Richard Burton's diary. I'm intrigued if he ever articulated his feelings when "Helter Skelter" was published. I wonder what his reaction would have been reading Sadie's account to Ronnie in prison about how she wanted to place Richard's dismembered member in a jar alongside Elizabeth's recently gouged eyes...
Where did Sadie say that? In testimony? She was one super deranged (sub) human being. She was the sickest of the bunch. She finally got her due.
