From CNN:
California Gov. Jerry Brown reversed a decision to grant parole to Bruce Davis, a former follower of Charles Manson. "When considered as a whole, I find the evidence ... shows why he currently poses a danger to society if released from prison," the governor wrote.
Brown's office had
received a formal recommendation from the state board parole Friday to
release Davis, 70, who would have been the first Manson "family" member
to secure freedom solely for good behavior.
In 2010, Davis secured
his first formal recommendation for parole by the state board, but
then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger reversed the board's decision.
CBS:
I did not think he would be released. I just don't see any of these still-incarcerated members being released any time soon. I am still surprised they let Clem out, but it was before the victim statements were allowed, so that must have been a way for them to cut a deal and have to quietly let him go.

ReplyDeleteI knew he wouldn't be released either. I had a lot of people disagree with me too. I don't think any member of that group will ever be free. Steve Grogan got real lucky. Of course, I don't think this old man will murder someone, or be a danger to society, but the issue is PUNISHMENT, plain & simple. Him, and the rest are being punished for what they did. These creeps terrorized & murdered, then laughed about it when caught. People don't forget about that.
ReplyDeleteJust to recap today’s activities:
ReplyDeleteGovernor Brown denies Bruce Davis’ parole for murdering two people.
Lindsay Lohan skirts her 9,000th court appearance, without apparent consequence.
A law abiding Florida man is swallowed in his sleep by the planet, in an apparent attempt to put the universe back into balance.
Yep, life’s fair.
"Until Davis can acknowledge and explain why he actively championed the Family's interests and shed more light on the nature of his involvement, I am not prepared to release him," Brown said.
ReplyDeleteI tend to agree with this reasoning. I personally don't feel like Bruce has been forthcoming about his involvement especially in light of him being a born again Christian. Is it the prison code of not snitching his reason for not being more forthcoming?
I feel that the parole board did their job going by the book but getting past a governor is a pretty high hurdle.
its to bad,i was hoping he would be released...grogan got out, lynette got out...l.v.h might get out?...i think in time he will..why would you give him life with PAROLE if you didnt want him out..parole means you have a chance to prove yourself and get out..it happens all the time..grogan told them where the body was and they just let him out..go figure?...but bruce will be realesed one day...
ReplyDeleteI wonder if he will have to unpack?
ReplyDeleteWell Grogan was released pretty much under the radar and I didn't hear about it until i saw it on the news reporting he had already been released.
ReplyDeleteThe huge amount of publicity behind Bruce's parole brought a lot of attention to the case hurting the chances for a release. Public opinion seems to really play into decisions like these.
"Until Davis can acknowledge and explain why he actively championed the Family's interests and shed more light on the nature of his involvement, I am not prepared to release him," Brown said.
ReplyDeleteSo, if Bruce writes Gov. Brown a letter tomorrow, explaining why he championed the Family's intrest and tells him exactly how he was involved, will the governor let him out, next week?

I think we both know the answer to that. Bruce should save the stamp.
I think the bottom line is the sentiment that Bruce isn't really being forthright and honest about what all went down. But even if all that was settled I believe that public opinion would still make it a hard decision for a governor.
I always thought Leslie would have had a better shot at parole but I've been proved wrong over and over again.
He should never get out I bet his x wife is relieved he did not get out.Davis scares me.

ReplyDeleteIt's a sad, sad, thing if a politician can't be taken at his word.
I totally feebed on this one. I thought for sure Brown would release him.
ReplyDeleteSuze, the last time I bet money on anything I lost $50 betting that Gerry Cooney would beat Larry Holmes. I was Cooney's busboy for a few weeks before the fight. I didn't think any living man could kick his butt.

Don't even get me started about politicians. But as far a politicians go I feel Jerry Brown has more integrity than most and that Bruce stood a better chance with Jerry than say Rick Perry , Rick Scott or Jan Brewer.
Gerry Brown remains the ONLY politician I ever contributed money to. It was when he ran for president in 92.

ReplyDeleteMy sentiments exactly. Folks up here comparing one person's case to another's are oversimplifying things. Bruce is a stone cold sociopath. Go watch any of the vids of him up on YT if you don't believe me.
I do agree with stoner fox though- Bruce will be released one day. It's standard procedure to release the body of a deceased inmate to his family!
I thought Governor Moonbeam would let him out, for sure.
ReplyDeleteGovernor Brown doesn't want the electorate thinking he's soft on hippies.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know what happens now? Does Bruce automatically get another parole hearing in a year or when?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if this has anything to do with the Boyd/Tex tapes???
ReplyDeleteI don't doubt it, Liz. No matter what the parole board decides, the state government will never set another Manson-related convict free in this day of cable and internet coverage.
