AustinAnn74's comment got me wondering why the girls/old ladies look as bedraggled as they do. John Waters said that the prison stopped the use of hair dye by the inmates and that, for a time, this could be seen in the place where the die ended and the gray began. Does anyone know what prompted this decision by the authorities? I'd think that attractive prisoners would be happier and easier to manage.
