2024 Dracena Dr. - Tex and Suzan LaBerge lived 200' apart

Tex's apt. at 2024 Dracena
Suzan's apt was across the street from the white structure. They are about 200' apart.

  1. If I think about the number of people who live within a similiar radius from me in my present neighborhood, it seems that I know less than 10 percent of them. That leaves 90 percent that I have no idea of after 12 years of living here. Sometime coincidence is just that.
Imo, these connections are compelling, however cielo and waverly are entwined, and any theory of motive must explain both. Why was Watson killing a housefull of people the day before his supposed scheme with Laberge?

  2. wengr, while it's true that most apartment dwellers even in close proximity may not know one another - when I was that age I made it my business to know ALL of the pretty girls within a certain radius. Even if I had to make an ass of myself trying. LOL.

  3. LA is a huge city. That is a lot of coinkiedinks. Compelling indeed.

  4. Matt, as a young man I too knew where all the pretty girls near me lived . And like you I went to great lengths to cross paths with them. Young guys are still like that, I hear.

And Suze, you need be careful of using the word "coinkiedink", (rhymes with winkydink, which is why I love it) it's hard to stop after you've done it once!

  5. 200 feet covers a lot of ground in a big city like LA. It could be a coincidence but I'm thinking they probably knew each other somehow and living 200 feet apart is as good an explanation as any.

  6. Forgive my ignorance, but is Nelson the only person who has LaBerge and Watson living in such close proximity? And if so, what/who are his sources? Did he claim this as original research or have others - credible others - also put this out there?

I believe LaBerge has some serious problems and her behavior with Watson has been beyond repugnant. It's one thing to try and "forgive" out of a religious obligation or duty, and quite another to invite the individual who slaughtered your parents into your life to be your pal. Just trying to decide whether I think this makes her suspicious, or just psychologically damaged to the point of being unhinged...

  7. Those apartments don't look too bad from the outside. I wonder what they were like back then? I wonder what the rent is for a place like that? What did Tex do back then to pay the rent, if anyone even made him pay anything? How long did he have that wig shop job?

  8. Leigh, you’d have to get in line behind me and hundreds of others who hate Bill Nelson because he really knew how to burn bridges, piss people off, and had the social graces of a 2-year-old—not to mention he was a horrible pedophile. Nor did he have the ability to cohesively put his facts together.

But let’s face it, the guy had concrete sources. He became close with everyone from Doris Tate to detective Earl Deemer to the LaBianca family to known Manson Family members and back to Vince Bugliosi just to name a few. On top of that, he contacted almost every named person associated with the Tate/LaBianca/Hinman murders.

  9. Leigh, Nelson is the original source of the Dracena story. And if you ask me, he makes some huge leaps by suggesting Tex lived there.

Basically what happened was,  some lady living up on Wonderland found a trunk in the canyon. She gave it to LASO because she thought it belonged to Tex. Written on the trunk was 202(with last number being unreadable) Dracena and the phone # 636-2021.

LASO thought it read 2021 and checked out 2021 Dracena, but no such address existed.

Nelson then decided it could only be one of two other addresses - 2024 or 2028. He ruled out 2028 because someone had lived there for a long time. So he guessed it was 2024 Dracena. End of story.

So there you have it. From an unreadable address on a trunk found in a canyon, is how Bill Nelson concluded that Tex lived at 2024 Dracena at some point.

    Pretty weak case.

  10. Cielo,
Was the phone number traced to Tex?

  11. Thanks Matt and Cielo for your replies.

Despite his numerous negative traits and the bad taste he leaves in nearly everyone's mouths, I am prepared to accept that Nelson did some legitimate, fact-checked, verifiable research on this case. His personal qualities, no matter how despicable they are, are almost irrelevant to our purposes provided the information he's brought to the table can be backed up. (The same goes for Schreck or anyone else.) It's when these researchers don't or won't use source notes of any kind that can then be investigated by the rest of us that I have a problem and start smelling the cow shit in the air. Anyone, on any subject, who wants to be taken seriously as a researcher needs to back up original research with more than just dubious "anonymous" sourcing that can't be verified anywhere else, followed by a heaping helping of conjecture and a chaser of logical leaps. This is probably even more imperative when the case at hand already lends itself so easily to sensationalism. Otherwise it's not going to resolve anything even remotely satisfyingly or definitively, much less convince skeptical minds.

Matt, I think you did a good job in the other thread of trying to tie together, as coherently as possible and utilizing direct sources, the strange narrative of Watson/LaBerge. Cielo has me convinced that the idea of Watson and LaBerge living in such close proximity very likely is a lot of bunk, though. Even if we accept it hypothetically, I'm not sure it means we can then reasonably assume knew each other. I live in an upstairs apartment with only one other apartment on the same floor. My neighbor is a polite, quiet Polish man whom I never so much as crossed paths with in the stairwell until he'd been in the building for about six months. Even then, I went another several months before laying eyes on him again - and his door is right outside mine. I hear him leave for work every morning, and I hear him come home at the end of the day usually, but I rarely ever glimpse him. Unusual, but it happens. It could have happened in this case...

...but her relationship with him subsequent to the murders is just so weird and unfathomable that it will probably keep us guessing for a long time to come.

Sorry for all my 'thinking out loud'...I keep turning over the connections and possible connections in my mind, and even though some of them are compelling, I don't know that others stand up to scrutiny.

Does anyone here know if LaBerge is still supportive of Watson? She hasn't shown her face at a parole hearing in many moons - does this mean she's had a change of heart or is she just keeping a lower profile? Maybe Tex has realized that all of his "get out of prison" gambles are the stuff of fantasy and he doesn't have much use for her now?

No. It is my understanding that none of this was ever tied to Tex.

  13. Cielo,
Thanks! Do you know what lead the lady who found the trunk to think it belonged to Tex?

No idea. I think she lived in the house - or the house next to - where Tex used to live on Wonderland.

  15. Cielo,
Thanks again. I guess the trunk "could" have been full of evidence.
