Just which Manson family members and when they were at Cielo is somewhat murky. However, there are many accounts of Manson or his associates being there prior to Aug 69.
I've read various things about it. Candace Bergen said Melcher came home one Monday and said basically "we're out of here by Friday", she couldn't understand why. I read that (I think) Greg Jacobson then asked Dean Morehouse to "house sit" the house.
Mark Lindsay of Paul Revere and the Raiders apparently lived in the house with Melcher, he said he moved out when Candace Bergen moved in because he didn't want to be a "third wheel". You can read about that here:
Apparently, Sharon Tate had a "housewarming party" when she moved into the house. I've often wondered if Manson or any of his associates were there. Manson mentions Nancy Sinatra in a YouTube interview, I think she was at Sharon's party and I think she mentions passing Manson (or some hippies) in the driveway as she's leaving.
So far as this post is concerned regarding Deena Martin, her father Dean Martin appeared in at least one film with Doris Day, Terry Melcher's mother. It's quite possible Deena could have seen Manson at the house during one of his possible visits there.
If you can shore up some of this that would be great...especially the Jacobssen thing. From what I have come up with is that Moorehouse was moved up to the Cielo Drive guest house to get him out of Dennis Wilson's place because the creepy old guy was getting on everyone's nerves. It would have been very short-lived and in 1968.
I have Deana's testimony from the Tex Watson trial. According to it, she met Manson at a party at Dennis Wilson's house, not Melcher's.
I've also confirmed with Gregg Jakobson himself that Dean Moorehouse never lived at 10050 Cielo Drive. This bit about him living there in-between Melcher and the Polanski's was just a story. Dean did briefly live in Wilson's guesthouse.
I just "re-learned" this today. I used to know about this small detail but when I learn something new about this whole saga something else falls outta my head due to lack of space...
Jakobson would be great, but really anyone close to Dennis Wilson who might have some new take. Dennis lived for 15 years after TLB but there is practically nothing on record about his thoughts.
Atkins IMDB page says "Moorehouse had been visited by Watson at least three and perhaps as many as six times."
If Morehouse lived in that house or had access to the grounds for 1 day and Watson visited him there it would have been long enough for Watson to learn the layout. Where the doors were, where the windows were, where the swimming pool was, where the living room was, where the bedrooms were, how the gate worked, which were the phone wires, the garage bug light, etc.
Apparently, Watson didn't know where the guesthouse was however.
Sunset, my source was Bill Nelson's Manson: Behind the Scenes(1997). The story also appeared in Greg King's Sharon Tate and the Manson Murders (2000), it's cited, but the citation doesn't make any sense. I just assume King got this story from Nelson because they were tight at the time. Then the story, as you pointed out, appears in The Family. But you are referencing the 2002 edition. The story isn't in the first edition. I suspected Nelson was the source of all these references. So I began a long search to either prove or disprove it. I found nothing about it in the trial transcripts. Thankfully, I was able to locate Gregg Jakobson and he confirmed that it never happened. I did remove it from my website. However, I have two Moorehouse pages - one for each spelling - and I guess I forgot to update both pages.
No, its not on the site yet. I have several of transcripts in queue to be digitized. Unfortunately, it takes awhile to do with these old transcripts. Melcher’s will up sometime this summer. Below is a portion of it, related to this discussion.
From People V. Watson, August 23, 1970. Terry testified after Deana Martin....
BUGLIOSI: Have you ever seen Mr. Watson inside your former residence at 10050 Cielo Drive?
MELCHER: Yes.
BUGLIOSI: Approximately how many times?
MELCHER: I can’t be certain -- several. Watson was a friend of Wilson’s and Jacobson’s and was often tagging around with either or both of those men, so whenever they would drop by -- not “whenever,” but often when they would drop by he would be with them.
BUGLIOSI: Can you give us an approximate number of times that you saw Mr. Watson inside your former residence at 10050 Cielo Drive?
MELCHER: I would say approximately six. It’s a very rough, rough guess.
BUGLIOSI: Do you recall what part of your former residence Mr. Watson was in on any of these occasions?
MELCHER: He could have been in one room or he could have been in all the rooms; I really don’t know. I wasn’t keeping track.
BUGLIOSI: During what period of time was Mr. Watson at your residence? You said six times -- encompassing, let’s say, what period?
MELCHER: I guess it would all be -- I’m sorry, let me retract that; All six times would have fallen somewhere in the summer of 1968.
A strategy of minimizing the connections between Watson/Manson/Moorhouse and Melcher seems to be at play here. Minimize by admitting only what is known or can be proven, stay mum on the rest.
The story of the Jaguar is instructive. There were credit card receipts on Melcher's card, signed by Moorhouse, right? So he HAD to cop to that. Absent that proof, that story would have gone into the memory hole where other interesting stories have ended up, I'm sure.
I don't believe Terry Melcher or Gregg Jakobson have ever minimized their connection to any of these people. When it comes to people and stories about the Manson family, I take just about all with a grain of salt. One of the very few exceptions is Jakobson. I'm 100% confident that Gregg has always been honest about this stuff.
Another thing about Melcher’s testimony regarding Moorehouse. It’s not like the question is, “Tell me everything you know about Dean Moorehouse?” He is specifically asked if he lent his car to Dean Moorehouse, and he answers. Jakobson’s testimony talks a bit more about Moorehouse, but it’s just because they question him more about Dean.
Cielodrive, thank you for sharing your information. can you tell us if Greg Jakobson is of the opinion that Watson knew one or more of his victims? I think that is the question we'd all like to know, and I suppose that his opinion on that subject more or less settles the issue.
This post has gotten a bit off topic. These are some nice pictures of Sharon from The Wrecking Crew. The Matt Helm series was one of the inspirations for Mike Myers’ Austin Powers. And Heather Graham’s character Felicity Shagwell, was loosely based off of Sharon Tate’s character Freya Carlson in the The Wrecking Crew.
At the time The Wrecking Crew was filmed, Sharon and Roman were living at Patty Duke’s Summitridge Dr house. Supposedly, Bruce Lee gave Sharon martial arts lessons in the driveway in preparation for her fight scenes.
Just recently came 'cross this post with these fabulous poses our our Dino and Miss Sharon. Know that they are bein' shared this very day with all the pallies gathered 'round ilovedinomartin.

Hi, Sunset,
If you can shore up some of this that would be great...especially the Jacobssen thing. Goddam that Dean had a great head of hair.
I have Deana's testimony from the Tex Watson trial. According to it, she met Manson at a party at Dennis Wilson's house, not Melcher's.

Deana's testimony does loosely identify Watson as being at a party at Terry Melcher's house in July or October of 1968.
I had always believed that Dean DID live at the house...
Thanks for clearing this for me up Ceilo
No problem Saint. I believe Bill Nelson was the originator of that misinformation, although I could be wrong.
Here is Deana's testimony from the Watson trial.
I am told that both Ms. Sinatra and Ms. Martin were guests at the Most Beautiful Ranch in the West, as well.
No wonder those trials took so long. She wasn't worth much as a witness, was she?
Terrific post and terrific links from Sunset and Cielo. All full of things i was unaware of. Thank you.
All goes to show how small of a world Hollywood is.
I just "re-learned" this today. I used to know about this small detail but when I learn something new about this whole saga something else falls outta my head due to lack of space...
Ok, AC, I am thick. You referring to Spahn's?
Could perhaps, Star City Radio get Jakobson on someday soon?
That would be a "can't miss", starship!
Jakobson would be great, but really anyone close to Dennis Wilson who might have some new take. Dennis lived for 15 years after TLB but there is practically nothing on record about his thoughts.
There are many similar references to Dean Morehouse living at Cielo on multiple websites, here are 3:
From Ed Sanders book "The Family",
Dean Morehouse
From Cielo Drive.com:
Dean Morehouse
From Susan Atkins IMDB page:
Dean Morehouse
Atkins IMDB page says "Moorehouse had been visited by Watson at least three and perhaps as many as six times."

It still amazes me that, for a guy who was only out of prison for such a short amount of time, Ol' Charlie sure got around!!

Sorry, bad link. Here is that page in the first edition of the The Family
As far as Watson at 10050 Cielo Drive goes. I have transcripts of Terry Melcher's testimony and he said Tex was at the house several times in 1968.
For some reason I can't get that link to work. But if you look at pg 158 of the first edition, you'll see it's not there.
Cielodrivecom, is Terry Melcher's testimony on your site?
No, its not on the site yet. I have several of transcripts in queue to be digitized. Unfortunately, it takes awhile to do with these old transcripts. Melcher’s will up sometime this summer. Below is a portion of it, related to this discussion.

And Melcher is not mentioning Dean Moorehouse either as a reason for why Tex was ever up there.
Melcher said he let Dean borrow his Jaguar to go on a trip that summer. That's the only mention of Dean is his testimony.
A strategy of minimizing the connections between Watson/Manson/Moorhouse and Melcher seems to be at play here. Minimize by admitting only what is known or can be proven, stay mum on the rest.
