If this pic was taken in June, that means it's almost 1 year old. Prison is a pretty tough place and I expect they will find him dead in his cell before much longer. I doubt if he attends his parole hearing next week, I think it's scheduled for 11:30 a.m. April, 11.
Yes, Charles is still in the hole. He was served with 12 mos, but that was from the hearing in late Feb. early March... actually he's been held since Oct. so it's more like sixteen months. The worst part for him is no guitar. The worst part for pals is no phone calls. I doubt he will attend his parole hearing. This photo is from his prison ID that must be updated every couple of years by law. Yes, he has hair again, because he didn't shave his head. If it's from June, he's tan because he'd have been sitting outdoors playing guitar, in the CA sunshine, and if it's more recent, he gets an hour of rec. outside each day, as all SHU inmates must by law. And also, I seriously doubt he'll be found dead in his cell, because Charles eats a good healthy vegetarian diet... he'll prolly outlive all the smokers and meat eaters on this blog!
A.C. Fisher Aldag said... And also, I seriously doubt he'll be found dead in his cell, because Charles eats a good healthy vegetarian diet... he'll prolly outlive all the smokers and meat eaters on this blog!
I suspect that not clogging his arteries with animal fat had something to do with his staying power and popularity with the ladies.
I just seen online the LA Times is reporting that Manson won't attend his parole hearing next week. I did 3 years in prison myself, 1 year in a super max prison that is probably very similar to the one Manson is in. The prison I was in "recreation" consisted of a chain around my waste with my hands cuffed to it and shackles on my ankles. I was put in an area outside about the size of a room with a chain link fence around it for 1 hour twice a week, chained the entire time.
23 or 24 hours a day in one of those cells is hard on anyone. I've seen prison "vegetarian" diets. Food in any prison can at best be described as "meager". Manson is 77 years old and I don't know about California, but the prisons I was in, it was cold in those cells.
I knew 3 people that died in prison. As I said earlier, if Manson is able to survive much longer, I'll be surprised.
Janson 2112, you are a fool! Charles manson is one of the greatest songwriters of the 60's. His music is other worldly, and far superior to the pop music written by the PUSSYS of today. Neal dimond, Neil young, the beach boys buffulo springfeild, Maryaln manson, guns and roses, and rob zombie, are just some of the musicians imppressed with mansons music, none of whom could make a pimple on his ass!
Sunset77, charles manson is 77. probably as old as you! Do you have as much hair as he does? I would have to conclude, that charlie has good genes, and has already demonstrated the fact that he is a survivor.
Orwhut, i'm not the expert, but i believe that sandy good has lived in maine, and Bobby busoliel is incarcerated in oregon. Also i beleive cappy lives in california. Someone please correct me if i'm wrong.
Hexjoe53, Thank you. I was thinking Sandy had lived in Maine, myself. When I did a search though, I found an article saying that she'd lived in Vermont. Maybe, after being outed, she moved to Maine.
My apologies to those whose comments I deleted. Nothing personal, you are good contributors - it's just that we don't like to publish anything that contains personal info like cities of residence.
Sunsett77, Is it common for inmates with comparatively short sentences like yours to go to a super max prison?
Actually, I don't know the answer to that question, but I'm guessing probably not. I do know how I got to super max though after being sent to prison for a probation violation. I did not get along well with the "pigs". It was constant friction. I got "tickets" all the time, sometimes 2 or 3 a day.
Beatings, screams, and pepper spray are a constant in prison. That's a tough situation as Manson is 77. I have almost as much hair as him, I'm 50.
I guess tickets would explain it. I was under the impression super max prisons were reserved for those at greatear risk of escape and that short timers seldom tried to escape.
Went to the linked article and read it... that's bunk about "substantial change in appearance" being the motivator for renewing a prison ID... that's done periodically, just as drivers' licenses must be renewed.
Besides the prison commissary, which has an uneven quality of food, prisoners can get packages from supporters from such suppliers as Walkenhorst's, many of which contain healthy foods(also junk food like Doritos or chocolate). Some of it requires being cooked in a hot-pot. The prices are higher than in the free world but includes shipping.
While Charles is in the hole he can still receive packages and regular prison food. I dunno if he has access to a hot pot. Vegetarian meals include brown rice, vegetables and fruit. Most of it's canned, not fresh. As I mentioned, the quality is uneven. Sometimes cold and gluey, sometimes pretty good. Food is prepared by the C.O.s for PHU inmates, so that it can't be poisoned.
When Charles is in PHU he can visit with people and there are vending machines with both healthy food and junk. A commissary guy comes around with coolers, which contain things like salads, yogurt, submarine sandwiches, burritos, juice, etc. both healthy vegetarian and containing dead animals. The food is more expensive than I'm used to, but perhaps it's just "CA prices". Visitors have to pay for the food, as prisoners aren't allowed to handle money. It was really, REALLY good... like fresh CA avocados... darnit, now I'm hungry.
Oh, they also have a PX where all prisoners except those in SHU can shop, which has things like ice cream. Charles has treated everyone on his unit to ice cream in really hot weather. PHU prisoners don't get to go often, as they must be kept separate from the rest of the population.
So far as cooking in the cells is concerned, you can take 3/4 of a roll of toilet paper, wrap it around your hand, and fold it out and make a "donut". To light it, you take 2 AA batteries, 2 staples, and 2 pieces of tape. Put 1 staple on a positive the other on a negative and place it on the metal toilet. Touch the 2 staple ends together and it gets cherry red hot. You can light a cigarette that way, then light the donut and heat a can of soup. You can also hot wire a light fixture or outlet with a pencil lead depending on the type of cell.
There is an audio on YouTube of Manson on the phone with someone on the outside requesting Bugler and Nescafe. Bugler is a type of smoking tobacco, I've bought MANY cans of it. I don't know if Manson smokes it himself or trades it, but he certainly wanted it.
It's a tough way to live for someone that is 77. He is not going to live forever, he probably won't get released or escape, there aren't many choices as to what will happen to him.
You are quite a treasure trove of info, Sunset. Fascinating stuff. I once heard a former inmate describe Supermax as "isolation as an art form". Would you agree with that?
See your WV profile pic Sunset. Just saying. I'm from West Virginia myself. When you can't get any tobacco in jail, you can always roll you a good ol coffee blunt. Done that one too.. Wow.
Susett77 and Disillusioned, By coincidence, I've been watching a documentary about the White family of West Virginia. http://wildandwonderfulwhites.com/ Have you run across any of them?
I have been coming here for a couple of months now and this is my first time posting. Thank you for the wonderful information, pictures and very interesting comments made by so many here. I am truly amazed at the knowledge so many of you have on Manson and all things related. I was 13 in 1982 when I read Helter Skelter for the first time. I have since read twenty or so books on the subject not to mention hundreds of hours readling online and yet the stuff shared here has absolutely reinvigorated my interest in Manson, the Family members, the victims & so many other peripheral characters that somehow are intertwined. Thanks so much to you all for sharing all of this.

LOL! Never seen that. I live in Huntington and its not really rural like the county that's filmed in. Although, I'd be lying if I said there's not any rednecks around here.... :)
Disillusioned, They remind me of the Dukes of Hazard. "Been in trouble with the law since the day they was born." I think they'd take that as a compliment.
No Hexjoe53 actually you are the fool. I would assume 53 is your age, but I could be wrong maybe it was your IQ, nonetheless a person of your age, should know music is judged by the listner. Hence some twangy off key weird lyrical music you like, is not the same music everyone will like, or in this case, most people would not like. Yes there are a few decent songs, but unfortunately for your point of view, they were not sang by Charlie, but other family members, A example would be, kiddie touching Clem actually has a very good voice. To your other point, yes OTHER musical TALENT has made some limited money off of Charlies songs, but then again they could carry a tune. My question to you is how much money did off key Charlie make? Huh? Well? Cmon, its not that hard to count to zero.
Janson 2112, i want to apologize for being imature and calling you a fool, this was wrong on my part. I'm new to blogging, and i have to restrain myself from being ruff around the edges. People can disagree without being un civil, as i am giving myself 50 lashes for being rude to you. I'll concede that although he had a very nice voice when he was young, charles mansons real talent was having the charisma to attract talented people who could interperet his music.
I want to apologize to janson 2112, it was wrong for me to call someone a fool just because i disagree with them. i was imature and want to apologize for being rude. To refrase: I think chariles main talent was atrracting peole who could interperate his music.
Does anyone think that Charlie will attend his parole hearing next week ?

I believe my question was too broad. If any 'family' members live in Maine, who are they?
Charlie missed his calling, it wasnt hippie leader or musician he sucked at those, it should have been Quick hair growing guru!
ReplyDeleteHe's mighty tan for someone who's been in the hole.
