Parker's Resort is family owned and operated, and has been for decades. They are dog friendly and offer camping and RVing (cabins like those pictured below are no longer rented to the public). They generally have good reviews on yelp.
The Pattys nearly stayed there, but ended up several miles away instead. The entrance on Neeley Road is barely marked as you can see. In fact, The Pattys almost missed it entirely.
Here also is a great view from Neeley road just a few hundred yards west of Parker's Resort of the thriving metropolis of downtown Guerneville, CA:

Way to add to the knowledge base and ‘dial this in’ for me Patty. I missed the reference about the location of the cabins or resort and had assumed they were much deeper in the woods than Parker’s Resort. Of course I had to read the Yelp reviews as they are typically some of the best unintentional comedy to be found and this did not disappoint. My how camping has changed over the years; the multiple complaints about the lack of hot showers are almost as vexing as the gripe about the absence of a swimming pool at a riverside camp. All that plus the deep woods are now apparently defined as more than a five minute walk from a Safeway. I once stayed in a beastly campground where the cinnamon was machine ground for the lattes and you might just as well write off any thought of having ‘good’ couscous for dinner. Yep, I know just what the Donner’s went through.
ReplyDeleteAny idea of where James was taken in relation to the resort? It’s hard to imagine the ‘three wise men’ expending any extra effort, so I assume Willett was killed very nearby Parker’s.
Farf, Patty did her best to locate the exact spot, but the location is described as "the side of a mountain about a half mile south of Guerneville." The Pattys interpreted this to mean due south, down Mays Canyon Road which can be accessed by turning left out of Parker's (see http://www.eviliz.com/2011/09/guerneville-ca-in-search-of-james_04.html). If one were to turn right however, onto Neeley road where The Pattys took the photo across the river, one is still "on the side of a mountain" (aka Neeley Hill), but furhter to the southwest than due south.
ReplyDeleteIf you ever manage to get a hold of the police reports from the Guerneville PD, pleae do let Patty know.
Cheers!
I know exactly where the cabin is. its still standing but abandoned. It is down Mays Canyon.
