Paul's yearbook picture he is in the middle of the top row.
Thousand Oaks High 1965
One of Paul's mugshots.
I can't recall the year this aired. Someone will know it and post it in the comments I'm sure. His interview addresses the dangers of cults. At the end of the interview phone calls are taken to ask Paul questions. There is a surprise phone call from a lesser known former Family member. If you have not seen it I won't mention which member. Paul is very not interested in chatting with her.
Paul aged very well, even for being sick with cancer.

I had never seen this interview before, two things stood out...
1. it would have been great to have had Paul interviewed by someone like Charlie Rose instead of the pedantic Maureen.
2. Paul was obviously very intelligent but his hesitating, halting style of speech did result in him coming across as a bit scattered.
Still, his central thesis, that the Manson Family should be looked at through the lens of mental health instead of just moral nilihism is a really solid and provocative arguement.
Are cults made up of mostly co-dependant and addictive personalities? Paul clearly believed so and it's to bad he didn't get longer to preach his perspective. He just flat out seemed like a real likable guy.
He obviously wanted to stick to his script of preaching against cults.
But like on these forums, people can't help but take tangents into the tribal atmosphere and of course the Hollywood, the sex and the drugs. He was obviously frustrated by that.
When Jenny called in that's when the topic shifted into the interesting stuff and he became a little irritated. LOL.

Really? Wow, your slipping my friend!
Shame in you!!! j/k you know Charlie and I love you.
I've always said, Liz, that I am just a pimply high school freshman when it comes to Manson lore while folk like you and Matt and Lynyrd etc are PHD's. I probably haven't seen 10% of the backporch stuff. I should stop arguing sports and politics and get some TLB studying done. Watkins just wasn't somebody I had focused or taken an interest in. But after listening to him talk I will try and track down his book. The guy impressed me.
the tribal atmosphere....yup Matt, that is my passion. Good point. We all have our own lens.
Plus I think I have a crush on Watkin's daughter. Thnks for the link. I am a sucka for a woman who can write.
That is why I love me some Liz.

I happen to see his book on E-bay today. I kid you not. Go there now! LOL
never done ebay either Liz. Maybe I am a monk and just didn't know it. I gotta get out more.
Paul's book is on ColScott's site. I read it there. Just search his site if you can't find a printed copy.
Paul was a cutie!! I can't believe he died so young.
