The gruesome murders of the beautiful and talented actress Sharon Tate, her unborn child and four others that same night at the hands of the notorious “Manson family” rocked the nation. As one of the most horrific crimes in modern history, these atrocities, the trial and the subsequent conviction of Charles Manson and his followers caused a media sensation, spawning movies, documentaries and bestselling books, including the classic Helter Skelter. A defining moment in an era otherwise associated with radical peace, love and understanding, this incident is one that still resonates with millions today.
Yet while this crime left an indelible mark on society’s consciousness, it was, first and foremost, a shattering personal tragedy for those closest to Sharon—the loving family left to cope with the emotional devastation of her loss. Now, after nearly forty years, their story is finally revealed.
Compiled by close family friend Alisa Statman and Sharon’s niece Brie Tate,Restless Souls draws on a wealth of material including interviews with the Tates, personal letters, tape recordings, home movies, public interviews, private journals, and official documents to provide a powerful, poignant, and affecting four-decade, three-generation memoir of crime and punishment, anguish and hope, rage and love, that is both a chronicle of death and a celebration of life.
Extending beyond all previous accounts, Restless Souls is the most revealing, riveting, and emotionally raw account not just of these heinous murders, the hunt and capture of the killers and the behind-the-scenes drama of their trials, but of the torment victims families’ endure for years in the wake of such senseless violence.
Tate family members set the record straight, correcting media misinformation and delving well beyond the official storyline to provide information, much of it available for the first time. Intimate, honest, and heartfelt, Restless Souls remarkable details, including :
• the dramatic role Sharon’s father, P. J., a retired army intelligence officer, played in finding his daughter’s murderers
• the reaction P. J. had when he came face to face—alone—with Sharon’s convicted killer in a holding room during a parole hearing
• the threats and menace that extended beyond prison walls, haunting the victim’s family for generations later
• the fight Sharon’s mother, Doris, mounted to insure the rights of victims’ loved ones, particularly the right to make an ‘impact statement’ at parole hearings—a legacy that has helped keep dangerous criminals behind bars
• the battles Sharon’s sister, Patti, waged with the entertainment industry as she tirelessly worked to prevent artists from glorifying her sister’s killers in music, art, and films
Told from the Tate’s extraordinary perspective Restless Souls offers a rare glimpse at the post-trauma survival of a family and their journey to find justice and ultimately, peace—a glimpse that couldn’t be more timely as Charles Manson comes up for parole again in 2012.

Very Nice info Liz, Sure wanna read that. Maybe a translated version ?? But I dont count on that. Brie Tate is a beautyfull looking Young women too IMHO.
I also do think that the Tate family is contributing to keep the Manson-Saga alive. Dont get me wrong here, I mean its an incredible Quest for Crime-Victims what they do and have done for decades. But take the excample ,Charles Manson parole hearing/playlet, 2012, and the release of Restless-Souls will stir the pot in annyway, much discussions and so on. And then again please dont see this as me trying to say its not good what the Tate Fam. does.Because it IS a good cause. Maybe I have a bit difficultys to express precisely in this . But what I mean is that they contribute to keep the Manson thing alive ,and maybe in a way they just dont want to.
Again Thankz Liz...verry nice info here !!
my library just ordered this book I have it on reserve for first reading should be interesting
This is the book Col was thumping back in July.
My Kindle copy will be delivered on 2/27. Bug, Ed, Bill and the rest have made their money so why shouldn't the Tate family get some. Had it not been for The Valley of the Dolls and a young and beautiful Sharon Tate this story would not have registered as much as a spike on Dennis Wilson's VU meter outside of LA. Even Charlie got the fame that he wanted so badly and failed to achieved in the music business by convincing the world that he was a psychopath.
Max, he certainly has convinced me that he's a psychopath. LOL.
Cold today. WTF happened to this mild southern winter we had goin' on?
I assume Lisa will be writing the Manson part of the book and Brie, the Sharon info.
Suze, I used the wrong term. Warning, this stuff should only be attempted by a professional. Do not try this at home! Has he ever actually been diagnosed as having a major mental illness? Personally, I've never wanted to read much about the guy. He just doesn't interest me. I get the feeling that it's just an act and maybe one that he has come to believe himself.
It' s getting cold again her in Chicago so this book will keep me company while I try to stay out of it for awhile. I'm sure ther will be something of interest for us to talk about. Amazon will be delivering it pretty soon...

Why won't your Kendle copy download instantly?
It's pre-ordered. Will be released on 2/21. I typed the wrong date.
I've asked this before, but does anyone know of a good site that keeps up to date figures on book sales. I am very curious how this book does and how the book by the Canadian psych nurse did. Anyone?
That would actually be a helluva thread Matt or Liz - figures on all the Manson books. I doubt all the others combined did half of what Helter Skelter sold.
wow, I tried to find book sales through google and it might be easier to get CIA inside info. Amazon says over 7 million copies of HS have been sold but I am striking out trying to find out how many of Tex's book or Sadie's book or any of the other Manson books sold. damn.

Thanks. That explains it.
will there be pictures?
This seems to be my lucky week. Not only do I have the Tate book coming but I also found a copy of Drive, He Said, the first movie produced by Jack Nicholson and featuring the beautiful June (Wilson) Fairchild. Anyone who remembers Hollywood-A-Go-Go on tv or saw Pretty Maids in a Row staring Rock Hudson knows who I am talking about and would probably agree with my description of her.
Feast your eyes.

Wow Maxfros...Verry Nice URL/Link , Such beautyfull women, Real women.... I am from 66 so too young to even remeber. But sjeeeeszzz what were the 60's Babes Pure...for real...
Thanks Hanz
It very possible that June crossed paths with a Mansonite or two. In '68 she was Danny Hutton's live in GF when Danny lived in Laurel Canyon. She's credited with naming Three Dog Night. Danny and Brian Wilson were good friends so it's seems likely that she was around Dennis at least some, and we all are aware of his connection. There's a famous photo of Brian and his friends which was taken at LAX and I feel safe in saying that June is the best part of the picture.
