I still love the story about Bono getting word out to Captain Beefheart that he wanted to "record a song" with him. The Captain, who never had any time for ego hero rock stars, replied with typical Beefheartian dismissivness "Who's Bongo?"
Say what you want about Motley Crue, but they did a nice, raunchy version of Helter Skelter. You get the feeling that they're injecting their awareness of Manson and the Family into their rendition. There's kind of a volcanic sexuality going on here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2dO619pSPo
