What does Ouisch mean, anyways?

I found this, but running it through Google Translate seems to imply that it roughly means "Yeah".


Does anyone know exactly what it means?

    I have heard that it's French slang, it came from Mr. BeauSoleil, and that it might be vaguely naughty.

    My question is, how do you say it?? In one book it said it is pronounced "wish". In a Barbara Hoyt interview she said "ooosh".

    I heard it was given to her by George because of the noise her cord pants made when she walked. There is probably as many theories on this as there are for why the murders happened. I think the only one who really knows is her though.

    I think it was Ed Sanders book that credits George Spahn for the name. I think that he was also the one who came up with Squeaky an Capistrano.

    The Hendrickson book which Patty will be reviewing shortly said some interesting things about how people got their names. He claims that Squeaky was named for her unique singing voice,and cappy was named that because she always wore a hat. These assertions come as a great surprise to Patty as does a lot of his other thoughts. Good stuff.

    It's an old school word for when a man sees a beautiful woman. I had a 70-something neighbor who often said "oooo-WEESH!" whenever he saw a cutie.

    It makes sense that Spahn would use that.

    BTW, I think Tex Watson in "Will You Die For Me?" also said it was pronounced oo-weesh....

    Someone once said (I think it was in the comments on the cols blog) that 'Cappy' was George Spahn trying to say Cathy without his false teeth in. I wish we could ask them and find out the truth.

    I was agreeing with Surf Bat until i remembered Spahn was blind! So maybe the noise of her trousers was more likely. He would be able to tell who it was from the noise.

    French slang, coming from YES/OUI, it's like "yeahhh" oo-WAY-sh, sounds more like "WAYsh"

    I have been searching the name "Ouish" &/or "Ouisch" for decades and found not much so I named my dog Ouish and many ask what it means. It has an American Indian ring to it, always liked the name. I have quite the strange connection and will blog it at a later date. MountainMan Kev.
