"The Cosmic Children" is a movie that was filmed by the famous surf movie maker Hal Jepsen. This portion of the film shows life on Topanga Beach. This was released in 1970.
These are the actual people that the family would of been hanging out with when they were at Lower Topanga Canyon (aka The Snake Pit). This is probably a good representation of what life in the area would of been like and why it got the reputation that it did. It's easy to see what the attraction would of been for Charlie and the family members.
Love the way everyone back then looked so individual. If I compare this to a Spring Break video now, the people look exactly alike. The girls seem to aim for this, in fact, working out and starving themselves and having the same straight hair and spray tans and same clothes.
ReplyDeleteThese people have all got their own look. Much like Charlie's girls. Even 'program people' back then had individuality!
That blonde haired, shirtless guy was feeling absolutely no pain.
ReplyDeleteLooks like some of the Dead shows I went to in the 1980's. Not that I remember them all that well...
ReplyDeleteHippi, I went to college at the U of AZ (Tucson). Went to see the dead in March of '83 at Compton Terrace in Tempe. I only meant to go to one show.
ReplyDeleteBUT after the show I met up with some acquaintances who were going to Vegas to see them the next night at the Aladdin and had an extra ticket for me. Even though I had a whopping $8 in my pocket (not to mention tripping) I went with them.
Long story short - I wound up 4-5 shows later in San Francisco. No money, no way back to Tucson and smelling really bad.
All in all - quite worth it!
Hippi and Matt, It would be off subject, but do you guys want to post photos of our stubs? Mr. Patty and I got ours out the other night and realized that were were both at the same show on 6/10/1994 before we even met! My stubs are mostly boring ticketmaster ones but Mr. Patty has a ton of sparklies. Sound interesting? or not so much?
ReplyDeletePS Matt, that is an AWESOME story.
ReplyDeleteNah, that's a post for another blog. Sounds like fun, though.
ReplyDelete'K
ReplyDelete...you are ALWAYS right, BTW.
Reminds me of Ocean Beach till about the mid 80's, then they started "cracken down" on things. You still see Wavy Gravy types walking around there sometimes. The last Bohemian lifestyle holdout in CA.
ReplyDeleteRemember O.B. P?
Sort of...LOL
ReplyDeleteMe have lots of sparkly stubs, too.
