  4. Great pic, Liz... good to see that at last some of the family still look like hippies rather than suburban matrons :-)

Thanks for the heads-up on Shreck's iupdated book. The original Manson File was always one of my favourite Manson books. Back in the days before the internet, it was one of the only sources of alternate theories to Helter Skelter. I wonder when it'll be released....

he has been growing that beard.
    that's about it.

And i didn't find this one, one of the researchers did.

  9. Chuck was a wannabe who arrived after he read about the murders in the paper. He was stupid enough to get a ten year prison term out of joining the Family after it began to disentigrate.

  10. I agree, Mr Poirot. There is a picture of Chuck on Mark Turner's site and Charlie has written on it 'I never met this person'.

  11. A couple of the members that showed up after the murders are important figures in the tale nevertheless.

I suggest you read Robert Hendrickson's new book DEATH TO PIGS. In it, he brings up an important reason why some of them (especially Kevin) should be studied harder.

I won't say why, though. Read the book.

BTW, RH is now offering the entire package (the book and both video DVD's for $139.00!).

  12. Yeah, I really want to get Death To Pigs. It is an extra $40 to ship to England. Maybe I will get it for Christmas!

  13. I don't know anything about the present day Chuck, but he was in my 5th grade class at Bassett Street Elementary School in Van Nuys, CA. All I remember about him is he was originally known as Chuck Brown, then one day he was Chuck Lovett. He's in the class picture. I can't find him anywhere after 5th grade. I saw a picture of him at Spawn Ranch in a news story back in the 70's but didn't know he was involved in the robbery/shootout and sentenced to prison until yesterday. I'll try to post his picture in a few days.

  14. I went to high School with Chuck at Birmingham High Schhol in Van Nuys. We were fairly good friends and spent many a summer day dropping by his house. In regards to a previous comment i wouldnt say he was ever the David Crosby peacenik type of guy like many others of us were.

  15. To you two folks that knew him, we'd love to hear more. Use my email address on the blog & drop me a line...

  16. I went to Birmingham also but have no memory of Chuck there, only in the 5th grade.
I've always wondered how much of his 10 yr. sentence he actually served and where he served it.

  17. msamerican, if you like send me that 5th grade pic. We'd be happy to post it.

  20. He got out of Tehachapi 1976, I have pics of him in prison & on the street. His answer to what he did, "I just fed the horses"... He was a hell of an Artist and learned to tattoo in prison.

  21. Chuck was my boyfriend in high school at Birmingham. He was my first true love. We went steady for 2 years and then he started ditching school a lot. He told me he was just hanging out with some friends at the Spaun Movie ranch doing lots of LSD. I went to see him there once. Lost my virginity that day in a filthy train car. Met Charlie M briefly but he gave me the creeps. At the end of the day Chuck kissed me and told me to go away and never come back. I was heartbroken but the all hell happened and I realized he did me a big favor. He was a good guy, just confused.

  22. My mind is kinda blown! He lives in a small town in Northern California.
Growing up in the 80's a couple of biker type folks moved town. Charlie Lovett was the name of the man and his lady was called CidEye (rumored to be short for Acid Eyes). They had two young kids. A boy and a girl. Someone who had read Helter Skelter saw the name Charlie Lovett mentioned and they asked "is this you?". He confirmed, but did elaborate. He's lived in this town for 30 years or so. My Mom worked at the school his kids went to. His son died of leukemia in the early 90's. Don't know what his daughter is up toy these days. He is no longer with CidEye (Jeanie, I believe, was her real name). He still lives is that small Nor Cal town. My aunt and mother know him and say he's always been a nice man. Maybe it's the same man, maybe the dude is full of BS. I kinda believe it's him.

  24. I've been curious as to Charles Lovett's family. Do you know mother and father's name? Date of birth? Anything like that? I ask because back in the 70's after finding his name, Charles Lovett, within the book "Helter Skelter" I was kind of taken aback, because that is my father's name. And then, at a later time, I went to show it to my father and I had to look up the page so of course I turned to the index. In the index it listed him as Charles Allen Lovett (which is my father's full name, and his father before him). You know how they talk about the whole 6 degrees of separation? Around this same time, my father was in the hospital and shared a room with Tex Watson's father. Needless to say it was an odd set of coincidences. I have always wondered if there was any family connection though.

  25. My dad has been buds with this guy for some years now he just sits in his girlfrinds bedroom all day coloring coloring books and smoking pot with a German Shepherd goldfish and a bunch of cats all running around. At least the times I've been there that's all that goes on

  26. Hmmm, interesting. I did some digging around and It turns out that he and I are related, cousins in fact, but it seems there has been no contact in all these years, between him and other cousins I have recently met through an Ancestry account. At least the questions that entered my mind so many years ago had been answered. My father, if he were still alive, would be quite shocked I'm sure.

  28. Charles Lovett is my uncle. (My fathers brother)
Not sure how “unknown” poster has confirmed being a cousin, unless it stems from a dynamic on my grandfathers side.

  29. If anyone here posting has any contact with Charlie, please tell him Spanky sends his regards. I'm still above ground living in Tangent Oregon. I ran with Him, Coc & Pinky in Tehachapi. My Aunt gave him an Address to Parole to. Peace..

  30. ATTN: JSBTE - I just changed my poster name here. In response to your post about "unknown poster has confirmed being a cousin". I did confirm, and reached out and then met closely related, long lost, cousins a few years back which was after my original post on here. I initially found this site while looking/researching family. You and I are related through a shared Great Grandfather, and other cousins of course.
