I want to re-post something that I put on Col's blog because it sums up my feelings on this entirely.. It was in response to a letter Bobby sent to his supporters after his denial.... ( he mentions in the letter that he is going to focus on his book)
Here is the very best compliment I can give Bobby- When he puts out his book... what he writes- I will believe...
He comes across as believable to me...
What I am hearing in this letter is the sound of a man who is walking the fine line between maintaining dignity, and expressing complete frustration...
It is not very good for anyone what they are doing out there.
They bring them back every so often to let them relive the worst few days of there lives, and give them and there families false hope. They drag the families out to drudge up the old feelings of pain. They give the floor to all the fruit loops who come out of the woodworks to keep there names and faces in the news... Ugliness all around when they hold these hearings...
Even those among us who have the greatest need for revenge cant be getting off any more after 40 years of watching Pat cry... These arent smug smiling young kids anymore...
They are broken down old people who pissed away there lives...
You're right, St. These aren't the same people they were 40 years ago (neither am I, for that matter -- thank God). I doubt any of them are a danger to anyone anymore. But they are all political prisoners and will most likely never get out.

The big screw up that caused all this recurring trauma for the victims relatives was the abolishment of the death penalty. The reason it was abolished was because of the huge uproar over Nixon saying they were guilty. The Supreme Court was just giving Nixon the finger. The court wasn't looking critically and intellectually at the legitimacy of the death penalty as they claimed. They just hated Nixon. Just like the reason Squeaky tried to assassinate Ford just because he was Nixon's VP. It had nothing to do with redwoods.
Patricia is the most difficult one for me. I think she is the most sorry. No book, no public Christian transformation. She's just plain sorry. The years of guilt show on her face. She is so obviously NOT a danger to anyone. Has anyone seen the Danny DeCarlo, Sherri(y) Cooper Canadian TV interview? Both of them were astonished that Pat did these things because she was so "nice". I think that she has never "hid" anything. I just feel really sorry for her and think she would do a great job being a counselor or something on the outside. It's been 42 years without his influence and without drugs. I wish these hearings were a little less "dog and pony" show.
St. C, I dont understand when you say Booby comes off beleivable to you. On his last parole hearing he insisted that Charlie never came to Garys house much less slice his ear. I dont think there is any disagreement that Charlie showed up to Garys house at least. So I don't see the whole Bobby beleivable thing, Please splain
