Schwarzenegger acknowledged that Davis had made "some credible gains" during his incarceration. But in turning down the parole recommendation, he cited the "especially heinous" nature of the slayings and Davis' repeated efforts to minimize his involvement.
The Republican governor also questioned whether Davis is still too willing to follow others' direction, noting his association with the American Nazi Party after he went to prison in 1972. He also found troubling Davis' statements that he would be subservient to his wife should he be released.
"Davis still exhibits conformist tendencies," Schwarzenegger said in a decision he signed on June 22. The decision was sent to Davis and the parole board on Friday.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley, the Republican nominee for attorney general, had urged Schwarzenegger to reject the parole board's recommendation.

Political posturing is all this is...
They arent getting out!!!
People should stop looking for reasons to pick at the wording, and point out whats unfair- and what others get for the same crimes....
They are among the most famous criminals in the world, and they went way too far, and did atrocious things- and People have not forgotten, and they are going to pay for it with there own lives period!!
Instead of looking for reasons why it isnt fair- or why they should get to live out there old age in peace...
Close your eyes for a second and clear your mind...
Imagine the person you love the most sitting in front of the TV. THey are smiling and watching a program and minding there own business...
Now imagine that strangers crawl in through the window, and slowly beat that person, and stab that person to death while they beg for there life..
Now imagine you are watching that person after they are caught and they are laughing at you and singing in your face, and calling your dead loved ones names in front of the world...
Do you really make excuses for the person who did this to you????
So why is it o.k. to make excuses for the person who did this to someone else??
I, like all of us, am interested in the Manson family. But I dont want to be friends with them, and I dont want to help them. It is not my place to forgive them...
My fascination does not mean I excuse them, or think any of them deserve anything other than what they have coming to them for the very terrible things they did...
Finding out the truth about why this happened is why I am here, and you know what???
When all is said and done it might have no reason. Charlie may have just been a screwed up frustrated dude who got desperate and pissed and attacked a couple of places he was familiar with, and then tried to run and hide..
It could be that simple....
well i posted my feeling here about who I personally think should go home and who should not. but, if it was my mother and father or my friend who was murdered senselessly i AM SURE i would think and feel differently.
LULU is my very favorite :)
I could argue that she did the very least of anyone in the family who was charged with murder...
But You will NEVER hear me on any blog argue why she should be free...
If they let her or Bobby go- I wouldn't make a fuss, but if they don't- I certainly understand why.
While I understand the sentiments expressed, they are held to a different standard than the State of California has. Manson is insane and should never get out. Watson is anti-social and his crimes dictate that he should never get out. Atkins is dead and with Jesus. The rest of them are old and washed out and victims of the 60's.
I just think we are in George Bush, Fox TV punitive America, and the rule of law does not apply if your crime is notorious.
I guess what I am saying is so hat if they are...
A large part of the idea ( not all but part) is to try and send a message to others to prevent anyone else from trying the same things... If they make examples of the most notorious- then it sends the message to the most people- and I think that is exactly what they are trying to do...
When you were a kid and your dad told you that if you went to that certain place you weren't allowed- you would be grounded for the summer. If you and your friends went anyway and got caught- and your friend was allowed out after two weeks- how did it go over when you told your dad you shouldn't be grounded because the other kids were out playing already???
lol what did he say to you???
